Should I sell my 2000 Subaru 2.5RS coupe?

I'm sort of at a crossroads. I have a 2016 wrx arriving in a few weeks. I have a very good condition 2.5RS coupe. My wife has been driving a 2005 Legacy turbo (for sale in the classifieds), it's very high mileage and we decided it was time to sell it off. The RS was my daily driver, but I get the wrx. If the legacy sells then the RS becomes the wife's daily driver. We've talked about getting something else for my wife and making the RS my next hillclimb car. It would make a good racer, but honestly it's in too good of condition. I'm of the thought that any race car should be "disposable". The value on these things is crazy. I'd really rather have a 02-07 subaru impreza sedan shell, and I've found a few that would be a good fit for short money. I'd hate to put the RS through another VT winter. Values seem to be around $5-6k for similar examples. I can get the shell I need for my race car for under $1500. That nets me $3500, plus anything I get for the legacy to put towards a car my wife will like(thinking used Jeep WK grand cherokee). Tell me why this is stupid.

All I can say is I'm glad I got such a great deal on my RS, prices are crazy.

Do you need to sell it?

I guess it depends on whether you want to keep it as a collectible at this point. They aren't going to make any more of them and given that they rust out pretty nicely they seem like they will get more valuable as time goes on since the body style is kind of a classic in the Subie community. That said you'll likely do better taking the money and putting it into an S&P 500 index fund if you want an investment.

If I had an RS in great condition, I would sell it before I would DD it.

They are getting crazy money and you could buy something newer with the proceeds.

So it has a set of 99 alloys on it. I have the 6 spoke originals with winters. Previous owner painted them poorly...black, then gold on top. Not perfect, but better than most in Vermont.

Sell it. They are commanding high prices right now and the rust won't get any better.

Off topic a little but I really like the look of the older one better. I would sell the new one.

New one isn't mine, so I'd likely get fired if I sold it. Just something parked around the shop.

I don't know but I can tell you that you are really going to like your 2016 WRX. I have a 2015, my fifth Subaru and 3rd WRX and it's just incredible what I giant leap forward it is over the others. And I liked them all. I had a 99 RS which I purchased new but sold years ago to get a new STi. Yours is too nice to beat up racing so selling is probably your best choice. We had some of the earliest 2015 wrx's at our shop, loved it from them from the get go. It is hard to explain to people how much the car has evolved for the better. It's a truly amazing car. I too have had every generation of impreza and a few legacies to boot.

If I had a 2.5RS coupe at this point I would spend more time worrying about it than I would enjoying it, so it would be a no-brainer for me to sell at the most inflated price I could get.
