u got it reversed...in the mid 80's the higher output z28's and trans am GTAs were all automatics, the lesser ones had manuals.

The nicer of the two 944s just sold on eBay for $3000.

Unless the Z28 is worth A LOT more (and I can flip it quickly), I'll probably just keep the other 944 for my track rat.

You don't want a 305 in a 944. Heck, you don't want the 305 in a thirdgen Camaro.

I have an beater na 944 at my house that would be traded in for a camaro in a heatbeat. It's an automatic and needs a headgasket but runs. I had bought it as a parts car to get trim parts etc for my 944 Turbo. Stuff like sun visor clips and other interior parts that are always breaking. A buddy of mine saw it and, for some reason I'll never understand, decided he would like to fix it up. I had pulled what I needed off it and was tired of looking at it, so told him I'd trade him for an old Checkmate boat he had. He didn't respond, so I assumed that was that....next think I know he's pulling in front of my shop with the boat....okay so now I'm a boat owner. Problem is he didn't take the car with him.

I guess what I'm doing is jacking m030s thread and saying if anyone around the middle TN area wants to trade a Camaro, Mustang, miniture pony, probably just about anything for an 87 944 NA automatic that's rough but running let me know and I'll get my buddy to turn loose of it. And when I say just about anything I really mean it...he likes guns too, so that could be a good trade.

Keep the 944. They're very fun with an LS1 in them!

I Own a thirdgen, and in your situation, you would be getting hosed trading the 944 for that year of Camaro with an auto. The 944 would be much more nimble, fun, and faster on track than a older carbed 3rdgen with an auto. the only way id pick a 3rdgen camaro over a 944 in your condition is if it was an IROC with Tuned Port injection and a T5 5speed.

hey.. i have a 305 in an 86 Camaro, and it works very well for what i built it for- reliability and fuel economy.. when you want to go fast, a 350 is a bolt in and a 5.3 is only a little more work..

My point exactly. If one wants to go fast one does not want a 305 in a 944 and most would agree the 305 is not the best performance option in a thirdgen...so you put in a 350 or such.
