I see nobody has made a Sick Week thread yet. Whoof, looking like a rough one for everyone. Steve Morris blew up two transmissions in the BoostMaster testing beforehand and nearly had a fire. Tom Bailey is chasing a bunch of broken parts and little gremlins, and even had a small fire in testing, and was running back and forth between Florida and Michigan. Kevin Smith was laid up with a hernia, then they got stuck waiting on an engine for Soccer Mom and had first fireup and dyno pulls the night before tech inspection, then had torque converter issues during testing. Cleetus and gang were littler first starting their twin turbo 7.3L Godzilla Fox-body the night before with a ton of work to do. Alex Taylor's '55 Chevy just seems to be fighting them at every step.

Day One livestream. Sadly, Dave Schroeder put his nitrous'd 872ci C7 Corvette into the wall HARD.
In reply to NickD :
Luckily Dave is reported as being okay! That was a hell of a hit.

Dave's Vette did not look like it wanted to go that fast; lotta lift to the car. Thank God he is OK.
Did the Nelsons make it down there? The Volvo they were planning on running is the same model as my dad's first car, so I've been following their build video.
Doesn't Tom Bailey always have problems? Not too surprising when pushing the definition of a street car harder than anyone else.
The Nelsons are there with two cars, the Volvo 544 and the Fairmont wagon.
I'm sad because I was supposed to be there but outside of racing problems has me picking up 3 shifts this week instead.
Saw Nelson's needed coil packs and wires about 45 min ago.
I'm fascinated by Steve Morris' success. Or at least his number of components vs number of runs.
The Boostmaster Wagon is awesome!
Calvin, Paula and I are here. Rough day. Took us 13 hours 40 minutes to travel from Orlando to Bradenton. Fighting ignition issues with the Volvo. We put it together in 4 months. The build details are on NIVLAC57 youtube xhannel. Volvo ran a 10.008 AT 137+ first hit ever. 1.37 -60 foot braking with low staging rpm and low boost. We plan to turn the knows to 11 at Orlando on Friday.
Bradenton is Tuesday
South Georgia Wednesday
Gainesville is Thursday
Orlando is Friday.
If you are along those routes please let me know. The ignition issue is not going away.

Have you checked the engine ground and crank trigger?

I'm in Gainesville. I am not competent enough to help fix anything but I could try to grab things you need and have them when you get to town.

These are the standings after Day 1. Bailey has a pretty solid lead in Unlimited, but mechanical gremlins are typically his downfall. Unlimited Iron is a dogfight between Bryant Goldstone and his Javelin, and Steve Morris in his beast of a Roadmaster wagon (what an odd leaderboard that is) and Alex Taylor is a little ways back in third with what I believe is her first 6. Modified has Brett LaSala in his neon green S197 Mustang leading with the fastest drag radial pass in Drag-N-Drive history and Cleetus chasing him down in Mullet. Cleetus has Pete Harrell with him as his tuner, so I expect them to pour the speed on as the week goes on. I'm impressed that the Mustang that they dyno'd the morning of tech inspection already has an 8.2xx under it's belt. That car is going to be way faster once it's dialed in (it's on low boost, with no intercooler, and the gearing in the Lenco is a bit too close). I guess yesterday, the big holdup was that the track zamboni actually exploded and oiled the track down. Whoooops.

Check the stupids, like grabbed some non resistor plugs? I'll check the vids for build details later. (edit) I have seen some intersting trigger issues on maxxecu so look for rpm loss at high rpm, also what version of those coils are you using? firing them in COP or waste pairs? I have seen LS style ones do some stupid E36 M3 if you lose cam sync at high revs and they go to waste pairs... dwell is too high and they spark early.
I'm watching the live feed and didn't see the Nelson's runs. Anyone catch a time stamp?
I'm coming to Gainesville Thursday to watch.. looking forward to it!

Fairmont is about 2 1/2 hours from the start. Volvo is not too far after that
what classes / ET goals are the nelsons running?

Sick Week Freaks is the class. Looks like it is a a stock(ish) body class for diesels and for gas engines under 8 cylinders. I did not see an ET limit, so it may just be to go as fast as the vehicle safety prep allows.

I'm pretty sure it's self limited to 8.50 because of just the nature of the class. It "could" go faster than that but I have yet to see it.
In reply to Ranger50 :
I'd have to look into the NHRA rules a lot more closely than I feel like to see if any of the class rules would keep a car from being prepped to faster than 8.50, but, yeah, that does sound like a practical limit.
