WHats putting you over?
I'll need to see if I can pull up an estimate of what the porterfields will cost; and wait for the kids to knock out for the night (maybe another hour?) and I'll detail it out. Suspension, Brakes are each around $500-600 depending on options. Wheels are in the $200-500 range. I'm seriously considering a staggered setup so I can use the OEM 17x6.5s in the rear with a 225/50. Then it's a matter of finding two cheap 17x8s to get some 245/45s on (but not too cheap 17x8s )... $150 for those two would help... it afaik, DC is not the place to look for those {and the sonata's 67.1 centerbore rules out Honda OEMs 64.15mm centerbore).
Two other things:
1) Car acquired, idle stumble seems gone? I'll be keeping an eye on it though... maybe pull an ecu reset? It came with three keys, perfect!
2) I didn't realize how much sleepywife hates beige, so this car will probably be for sale beginning May 15th for probably $2018. We'll see... I've got to sound this out a bit more... I might sell off the van instead... but that might not be a "valid option".
What's the Honda vs k-car wheel offsets like? Depending on what the hub/rotor is shaped like, you might be able to get away w/ spacers to fix the centerbore conflict.
In reply to bluej :
Just edited my post... got distracted by the sleepykids trying to fall off the couch, and didn't obviate the fact that the honda rims are usually 64.15mm centerbore. I'm not sure there's many spacers that'll get you from 67.1 on the inner face down to 64.1 on the outer face... and if so, it's probably the cost of a wheel anyhow.
re:where's my detailed budget post:
so, I just spent an hour working through tire selection options. Cheapiest option, and "theme correct" would be some Kuhmo UHP Allseasons in staggered 225/50 and 245/45. Came out around 290 after rebate. Some one can make their 420 treadware rating joke. Second cheapest setup is square 235/45's in Pirelli Pzero Nero GT, at $113 a tire, but that would need a full set of 17x8's to pull off. Otherwise I can do staggered 225/50 and 245/45 in either those Pirelli's or the Conti's ExtremeContact's, which I ran last year.
Brake pads look like they'll run a minimum of $300 for G-Loc or the aforementioned Porterfield setup (based on using the TL's brake prices to correlate over to the price for Sonata pads, since they don't have them in the system. {with the assumption that the existing rotors have the req'd thickness left). $160 for spc front balljoints, because camber. $50-$90 for brake fluid. I'll probably have to leave oil/transmission fluid out as "required service fluids". $30 transmission cooler, and $40-100 for brake cooling. So, we're up to ~$700 without wheels... out of $1136 available without recoup.
I think that's close to the minimum that has to be spent to get the car ready. Although, that leaves open the debate of whether "steel brake lines" are required... or if High Temp fluid is sufficient to combat fade... and if so, it's probably smart to swap in some new ones, you know, because. And I may find that I need longer studs, assuming I find some worthwhile wheels.
Then we get into optional, nice to haves... lightweight battery, H&R springs, some setup of shocks... maybe in that order.
Wheels: Mustangs are 5x114.3, metric (or 5x4.5 in SAE) as well but have a center bore of 70.3.
Would require hubcentric rings but they are $10 via Amazon for the full set of 4.
Spend some time on your local CL looking at Mustang Rims
Nissan/Infiniti rims will not work as they are 66.1 center bore and Toyota/Lexus are 60.1 Hyundai is 67.1
guess I need to drive out to the eastern shore?
And yeah, most aftermarket wheels are larger. They're also in the $100-$130/wheel range.
edit, yeah these won't look funny at all?
Personally, I think the Bullits will look great.
Sample. Sure it's a Fusion but it is a similar beige sedan.
The Bullit Wheels you listed look to be aftermarket version available from places like Summit/Jegs because they don't actually have Ford logos in the center, just the blank oval where the Blue Oval of Ford should be. This might work to our favor and get someone to print some vinyl "H's" that might fit in the space.
well, they're a whole bunch more local than the other ones. I think I need to clear some RPF1's out of the garage today first. But, there's a good chance those bullit's will be around this weekend.
should I assume 17x7 or 17x8?
As far as 17x7 or 8...
Being that they could be aftermarket, it is best to look on the back sides or maybe to get the sellers to send you a picture of the back side writtings.
I have been told that the Mustang Tri-bar, double 3-spoke rims are the least desired by Mustang owners and are often the cheapest when you find them for sale. My guess is they are even hard to give away. However, they are 5 lug, 17 x 8.
In reply to John Welsh :
Those are violently ugly, but considering what they're going on I'm not sure it's really an issue.
didn't someone pick up a set of these for challenge... or was that the forum member formerly known as "G-body man"?
I think the bullit's will look better; and besides, most of the mustang owners near me are like this one
also, I've reunited this car/wheel combination, and scored some karmic points:

Watch it Honda boy! Lol
If you guys would consider an 18"wheel, I've got a set of bullitts for sale. Cheap to forum members, unless oldopelguy snags them first.
In reply to RevRico :
I've emailed the local bullit's... but looking up tires, I could probably make 18's work... although I'm curious about weight/offset. If you want to pm me that stuff, a price, and location... I can figure things out better.
Or maybe I can "rent" them from oldpole guy and turn them over to him at the end of OneLap?
I may have three 17x8's you can have for shipping. I will verify their size and off set etc. when I get home.
In reply to sleepyhead :
Pm sent, but in case it didn't get through, Here's their ad
Backspace I measured 6 1/8", I don't know the weight but one of the tires has cords showing, so I might be able to pull it off and weigh a wheel this weekend.
Another option if 16x8's would work is a set of FD wheels. They are super light and are tough. Conviently I have a set i would sell for 300 plus shipping.

Well, I can find out if BFG's SportComp-2's do...
otherwise it's a whole bunch of A/S, ala:
I think I'd rather take 2 of your 17x8's off your hands... depending on sizing confirmation.
although, looking up RevRico's town, it might be easier to scoot up that way.
thanks for pipping up everyone! it's great to go from "wtf am I going to do" to "I have too many options to pick from"! I sincerely appreciate it!
Ok I have three kazzera 17 inch wheels. They are 17 x 7.5 not 17 x 8. They have a 40 offset. You can have them for shipping.
I bought them for my aristocrat gs400 and one broke when my caliper got wedged in it on the way home from an autocross.
Made in Korea!
