My 1987 Subaru wagon got egged once. In Colorado, where a Subaru wagon is the state bird! You just can't explain some things.

I was once given a hard time by a guy down the hall at work that real men only drive trucks - SUV's are also suitable. But not the little toy car I was driving. A Miata by the way. I told him a I had a truck at home but prefered the Miata because it's cheaper to drive and more fun.

My response to people who go on about how great trucks are is:

There are only 4 reasons to own a truck
1. You tow a race car or horse regularly
2. You are a plumber or building contractor
3. You work for an NGO in a 3rd world country
4. You want to marry your sister

Oh, and for reason 1 through 3 a full size van does a better job.

Unless you have to haul a half-ton of gravel or mulch. Or pull a 5th-wheel trailer. Or toss hay in there. Or need a crew cab. Or want to have a half-dozen guys sitting in the back with AK-47s.

How many of those guys who used to scream 'Buy American' now won't buy General Motors or Chrysler because they took bailouts from Obama and his socialist government and the union 'scumbags' now run GM. I know a few, and these guys are running out of options.

When I go over to the in-laws for dinner and all their kids are there, I have the smallest truck. And it's a 2010 Dodge 2500 with a crew cab! Father in law has a Dodge 3500 with the same cab and a long bed. Both brother in laws have long bed extended cab Ford 350s. All turbo diesels, of course. But mine has the biggest engine

However, every one of them is a working truck. 80% of my mileage (no exaggeration) has been done with a one- or two-car trailer attached to the back. One of the Fords is used to tow multiple 4wds. The 3500 tows livestock or hay or a giant fifth wheel camper. The other Ford is mostly a toy truck, but it's still humped a 26' trailer across the country in the past. Trucks have their purpose.

And I drive a Miata to work.

Say what you will about my mercedes, show me an american car from 1978 that would have a chance again my benz. Here is the standard equipment on my car from 1978, 4 speed auto transmission, fuel injection, dual exhaust, oil cooler, transmission cooler, 4 wheel independent suspension, a paint system that works, 4 wheel disc breaks, 180hp dohc inline 6. The car has 137k miles on it and still runs good and passes california smog with a bit of tweaking. Look at american cars from the 90s and my car is better equipped.

not sure what to say here....I guess you're being serious, but with a standard equipment description that includes dual exhaust, a paint system that works, and 4 wheel disc "breaks" who can be sure.

I've got a fifth wheel trailer that disagrees with your van assertion.

Truck things, IOW.

Things for which you need a motorized wheelbarrow or dolly, another name for which is a hand truck.

They make full size vans with a Cummins now?

No, but they do with Duramax and Powerstroke.

Your average ambulance is a Diesel, and they don't start off with pickup chassis.
