Long story short: Sold GTO to pay expenses related to going back to school. Moved into an apartment from a house. Family member leaves town and can't sell their house. They want wife and I to move in for at least two years until the market recovers. House comes with a decent size garage.

So having said that, their are some cheap deals on cars in Jacksonville. I have a fair amount of change leftover from selling my GTO and student loans are finally kicking in and wife has a salary to support us. I have another 2 years left in my MBA and MAcc. I have always wanted a project/track car but never had a garage big enough.

Saw this in the local craigslist. 88 FC RX7 Also saw a $500 dollar Miata. Pending rust, which would make for a better project/track car?

I do have access to a cheap LS1 from a buddy, which leads me to want the RX7. As you can tell I don't want to study for finals.

On the upside, the RX-7 in the picture is the lightest body in that style, however it has the crappy 4 lug bolt pattern, small brakes, and no limited slip diff.

Are parts generally cheap for that year for 'upgrades'?

Part of me is saying wait until school is done. Then I should be able to spend a bit more on the initial purchase of the project car. Would love to get a Solstice and strip one out to 2700 lbs. I have always thought they would be a great track car.

It's not unusual to find a 5 lug car in the junkyard to grab the brakes off of. The rear diff is a pain to swap out, but still doable.

I also have Miata experience! Having owned both, I'd go for a Miata over an FC. The Miata is a better car, and there's way more aftermarket for it. FC parts can get $$, especially with the vultures that snap up rollers and part them out. I do love how a white FC looks, though, and that LS1 is a tastey, tastey package.

I'd love to lend a hand whenever I can.

Thank you sir! I might have jumped the gun a little. The 'better half' is stongly suggesting that I wait until school is done. Simply because I have a habit of wanting to start a project and not wanting to stop.

I will let you know how this plays out. Again thank you for the offered hand.
