Pretty stoked for it. It's a nice little 305 TBI. Just rolled over 200,000 kms (120k miles), which is low for a 95. No codes, and a few bolt-ons. The type of truck you just enjoy. Ask as many questions as you want, and I'll try to answer them all.

If a train left Boston at 3:00 traveling 50 miles per hour and another train left Philadelphia at 4:00 traveling 40 miles per hour, what time would they collide?

Already taken care of by the PO. Rebuilt steering box, new bushings, new shocks, new springs. Drives pretty well.
That's a plus, don't forget to hit all the zerks every oil change. Based on that, if it's an auto you might luck out and have a well maintained one on your hands that won't crap out at 150k or so.

PO was an auto shop teacher. It's been fairly well taken care of. No codes, runs well, trans doesn't slip or anything. I quite enjoyed test-driving it.
Nice truck, you definitely should enjoy it.
However, while grandad might rock the high rise capper, a high school teen needs to ditch it quick. That thing is a serious hootus-blocker!
(Just for confirmation I asked TigerMom, without telling her my opinion, she volunteered that the cap had to go)

They wouldn't if they were both headed to nyc.
Congratulations! You are now The Guy with the Truck. You have been instantly nominated to haul all your friends' stuff they pick up from the trash, skeezy furniture, filthy dirt bikes, broken-ass engines, smelly wet dogs, terrible band gear, salt-encrusted surfboards, giant crates of weed, and whatever else teenagers in the Okanagan might want carted around.
Not that there's anything wrong with being The Guy with the Truck, just warning you what you might be in for.
Nice! Now either lower it NASCAR truck style or lift it pre runner style. On yeah loose the cap and get yourself a "YES this is my truck NO I won't help you move" bumper sticker.
How much sand are you going to keep in the bed so you can actually go anywhere when there is snow on the ground?
Yes, love some GMT-400s, he high water mark of GM trucks for sure. Even a GM engineer that I was talking to admitted that GM trucks only went downhill from there.
At 120K miles, that thing is just getting broken in. Ours went 290K miles before we had to retire it due to the rear of the frame just getting too rusty and the driveshaft literally corroding through and breaking. As for front suspension, we replaced one ball joint at 280K miles and everything else was still factory (tie rods, steering box, pitman arm, idler arm, shocks, springs etc.) The trans was serviced every 50K miles until 150K and then never touched again and it shifted just fine until the day we retired it. The engine never had anything other than tune-ups and oil changes and a throttle body gasket and still made 60psi of oil pressure and didn't use even a quart of oil between oil changes.

Yesssssssssssssssss. OR Cragar Soft 8s.
excellent choice. don't lose the cap, i tried that on my old 92 and put it back. open bed is overrated, flat covers are stupid because you turned it into a car with a big trunk(ala my brother in law's ram, shortest bed, hard cover, carpeted bed, never sees anything dirty). tall cap keeps all the stuff dry and you can put lots of big things in it, and sleep in it if necessary although i do not recommend it.
my 90 1500 is on original ball joints at well over 300k(odometer broke). you will get good at changing the idler arm every 25k or so because none of the aftermarket stuff, even the moog HD, is anywhere near as good as the GM parts. after a moog heavy duty one got sloppy after 25k, i started buying the $7 rock auto ones and they last almost as long.
i've had a gmt400 since i have had a license and this is going on year 20. started in a brand new 97 in late 96. then i dragged a $150 89 out of my buddy's backyard where it sat for 8 years with the window down. threw out the seat and carpet, bolted renault fuego leather buckets to the factory tracks and drove it for 2 years. had an 88 1500, then went to a 90 3500, had a 4/6 dropped 90 1500 v8 5 speed longbed, a 92 1500 v6 that i put a 305 in, a 94 suburban, the current 90 half ton, and probably more in there somewhere. current is my favorite, was a v6/5 speed, now is 454/5 speed. oh yeah i have a 92 3500HD too.

My solution is to let them borrow the truck anytime just fill it up when you're done. I get extra gas they get to do all the work.
You'll need to log in to post.
