I think he said that all in he was at 8k. He also used much more expensive parts (that 5.0L is twice the price of the 6.2L). What I want is already about half the cost.

We might have a winner:

I will see if I can get it for cheap enough.

That looks perfect! I'm excited to see this happen.

We will see. This is a lot sooner than I was expecting but if I can get it for cheap, why not.

How much are you expecting to spend?

He offered it to me for 3k off ebay. I don't have that kind of money for this at the moment but I could swing 2. I will see what the auction goes to. If not, I will keep looking at online salvage auctions and saving my pennies.

Wow, $3k for the whole truck?

Minus the wheels and running boards. No wheels is a problem though.

I constantly think about doing this or something similar to my 84 f250 (has the 6.9 idi currently). Problem is the truck works fine as it is, is manual transmission, AND I don't even need a truck.

So it looks like with a little patience that wrecked 6.2l trucks can be had for 3-4k. That would get me 90% of what I need (if I am willing to keep the GIANT transmission) and I would likely be able to make at least 1k off parts from said truck.

I like this idea. I often wondered about V10 mod motor swaps into cars like a Galaxie, but the 6.2 seems to make about the same power (althogh I haven't checked numbers.) Can't wait to see how this turns out.

You can probably do a old transmission through an adapter bellhousing. If it were me I'd bet that a four speed build up plus a gear vendors overdrive would be better and lighter than OEM - certainly smaller.

In reply to tuna55:

That is likely true but I am cheap (sort of) and the bullet proof, double overdrive 6r140 would already be in the truck and already wired together with the engine. This isn't a small car to begin with so adding 120 lbs to the center when I can dropping 250+ off the nose is OK by me. The 6R140 is behind the new powerstroke motors making 800 ft lbs of torque. If I lost my mind and wanted 800 hp, the transmission is already there.
