That's not inherent to the light, that's the choice of materials. Make them out of the wrong sort of plastic and it'll happen. At the time that those lights were in common use, they were most likely to be made of glass. There are some plastic ones around though.
But it does bring up the point of economies of scale - the standard 7" round lights could be made out of better materials at a lower price point because there were millions being made a year.
Another option I thought I'd never need or appreciate until my '09 E92. I drive enough back roads at night that I've become accustomed to 'em... and the cornering lights too. I didn't actively search these out but I'll take 'em. Same w/ a lot of other options discussed in the "what options" thread a while back. Ain't gettin' no younger, not nickel n dimin' anymore... enjoy the drive.

Right funny how that works. Multiple times buying this card I had to tell myself that I'm not poor anymore.. "you're an adult now and you make well enough to afford a sunroof or keyless entry."
