Pardon my ignorance, but does anyone know exactly what Ecoboost is or does?
the same thing that the direct injected turbocharged Ecotecs did in the Cobalt SS and Solstice GXP- make it go moar faster...
Don't forget the Mazderp DISI..... I have a feeling Ford cribbed a LOT of notes for this before the split.
uuhh, no.
The 2.3l GTDI Mazda motor was ok, but not great. And all further engines don't share a thing (which was a surprise to me, honestly)

So. if I have this right, all it is is a direct injected, turbocharged engine. Hardly ground breaking technology or anything earth shattering. I just wonder why Ford spends so much time mentioning Ecoboost in their commercials without ever saying what it really is, or the fact that every other car company in the world has the same technology.
In reply to ncjay:
Ecotec, Skyactiv, etc. Everyone has a name. Ecoboost is just Ford's. Nobody really talks to the general customer about technology like that.
I will say that there are some unique things in Ecoboost. Lots of patents.

I just got back from the Boston event and had a total blast. I really really liked the Fiesta ST - it could very well be my next car. I won one of the autocross shootouts so I came home with a sweet Focus ST die cast.

Remember when GM came out with the Quad4? 16 valves! two camshafts! You'd think they invented the concept while pretty much everyone else had adopted that design for many years prior.
PS - I'd gladly do the Ecoboost thing but a scheduling conflict has me elsewhere.
PS - I've done a few of these test-drive things and none have come close to the GM "Auto show in motion" I did some years ago, so I don't get too excited over them nowadays.
