I was AutoXing today as well. Irksomely the morning heat had none and my Hoosiers didn't do much gripping on the 55 degree asphalt. The afternoon heat was SO MUCH faster!! At least in two weeks the worm will turn and then....

So jealous of your events. I haven't been out to an event since I finished up the rabbit. Trying to make the last race Oct 5th. Unfortunately I'll just be off a plane from Asia the day before so wonder how jet lag autox works...
I was autocrossing too on Sunday. Our central Florida event had lots of heat; 90 degrees of it. I'm so ready for the cooler weather to set in next month.
Had a good day.
Pffft. Went out this past Sunday. First time I was out in 3 years, on 3 year old tires, and left the kids seat in the back. Finished 11 in PAX. I am out of practice
If I could share one piece of advice with anyone who is just getting into autocross, it would be this:
Try not to have an eleven time national champion in your class.
Yeah, having Daddio driving the z06 against you can be a bit disheartening, but then again it's great competition!
To be fair he only got that car a couple of months ago. He might do even better later.
Looks like I managed to pax fourth. I'm all about pax now that I'm in GS

I used to be too when I had my GS Sentra. The SMF index is a lot tougher, so now I'm happy if I make the top 10. I actually place better on raw times than on index (5th overall, 8th in PAX on Sunday).
In reply to Woody: I found out that for just starting out, half the field is most likely to beat you right off the bat, and to not worry about losing too much.

I used to run SSM in my turbo Miata so I've gone the opposite direction from you.

Oh, I'm not new at this. I started autocrossing 28 years ago. I just haven't done it in a while. Winning was never as important to me as just having a good time with my car. Which is convenient, because I'm not very good at it.
Woody, that's exactly why I do it as well. Id prefer to run hpde, but the cost of consumables, and the greater risk involved, hold me back right now.
autocross may be "harder" on the car …. we're at WOT in 2nd gear and throwing the car around rather violently …
that said, the higher speeds, longer harder braking, lateral loads, heat build up, plus the greater opportunity of impact damage would seem to make DE's more of a problem in the long run … at least to me … my 2¢
Track days are harder on a car. You don't use up brakes at an autocross, you aren't running your engine at high RPM for long at all, tires don't get worn down all that much at autocross. You just aren't driving the car for very long at autocross as compared to a track day where you might be out there beating on the car for a half hour at a shot or more.
Autocross amounts to maybe 10-15 minutes of hard driving per event for a car. Usually less if you're a one driver car.
