All I can say is one of the local hot shoes (and jacket winner) is running a C6 Z06. I get the impression he can buy and run any car he wants (also has a Viper GTS). He buys cars based on their class competitiveness.

I've been seeing these on the road more now than when they were new. Probably some because values have dropped and owners are saying "f-it..." and probably because they are starting to become more available used.

I can't imagine values will ever drop below that of the C5 Z06.

Not questioning your credentials either, but track and autocross are different animals and require different setups and driving methods entirely. Autocross compresses a lot of maneuvers into a really small amount of time at a moderate speed, where tracks generally stretch those maneuvers out over a much larger distance though at a higher speed.

I don't think I would be any good at track driving a car. I'd probably be okay, but certainly nowhere near anyone that has a lot of track time. I'm moderately good at autocross.

The main thing is that between the various Corvettes out there the C6 Z06 is arguably the one to have for AS or SSR autocross. If I'm going to buy a Vette for autocross I'd rather buy the best car for the class and then know that it's my E36 M3ty driving that is messing things up rather than car. Plus, it's a 500hp car for $32k.

Ideally, Harvey buying one for autocross use is using it purposefully, much more than others just putting them around town because it's the highest spec Corvette.

I just finished doing three Pro Solos this year and runs up and down the coast to NER and NNJR for autocross as well as our locals, I'm a little bit past a few runs through the cones as an autocrosser. Not saying I'm Mark Daddio, but I do know him pretty well.

I wasn't trying to get in a sword fight with you. Your initial post did not suggest how important the autocross aspect was to you. If the latest and greatest and most competitive C6 is what you want then buy it. Under your parameters as I understand them now I believe I would buy a mid mileage car for a good price and then thrash the hell out of it.

Didn't think we were sword fighting, my post was meant to clarify how competitive I wanted to be. The other aspect is that if I do more national events next year and there are hot shoes that want to co-drive with someone it behooves me to have a competitive car.

I've got a good line on a $32k car with 53k miles, which I think fits into what I want/need nicely.

Sounds like a perfect plan. Good luck. If I were in your shoes I think I would have much more fun with a clean 50k mile car then I wouldn't be so worried about nicking it up affecting resale.
