Pony car: short deck, long hood.
Visually defines Mustangs, Cougars, Barracudas, Challengers, Camaros, Firebirds, and Javelins.
Where does an Aston Martin Vantage fall? Specs look like pony car except for only 2 seats. Is it more of a Sports Car than a Mustang? Is it a supercar because it costs so much?
What is a C7 Corvette? Sportscar? Supercar? Can a supercar be front engine?
What is a C8 Corvette? To cheap to be a supercar?

The 64-66 straight sixes that they made a crap load of, that are pretty much non-existent now because everyone thinks a Mustang means a V8.
Also known as a Falcon with a body swap.
They exist. I found several at the last Mustang meet I went to. One had a full restoration done.

I agree with that. I have coupes (MGA, rebodied MGA, Pontiac Solstice, BMW Z4M) and they are all sports cars.
There are two seater cars that have no convertible version that blur the lines a bit - what do you call the BRZ/FRS twins (I'd call them sports cars but some wouldn't).
You had seeming aberrations - the SCCA considered an AMX to be a sports car (AMC had removed the rear seats to ensure that) and for a time in the late 1960s, they also considered the 911 to be a sedan for the purposes of running in Trans Am racing, at the urging of Porsche and with the excuse of rear jump seats.
I'll do one model for fun even though I'm not a Ferd guy. I define all these types of car as having 2 doors anyway
Sports: Small, light, quick, nimble. Mid-engine Mustang Prototype
Pony: Small, rwd, smaller v8 or peppy 6. Early Mustang, Mustang2, Fox Body Mustang up to a 351
Muscle: Midsize, rwd, medium to large v8. Late 60s/Early 70s Mustang 390 and bigger
Grand Touring: Heavy, RWD, comfy, lots of power. SN95, S197, S550 GTs
I thought the definition of "sportscar" was a street car that you could drive to the track and actually compete in. Needs to seat two (or more) people and have at least a bit of luggage space. In real life, that usually meant a small/light roadster with a 4-cylinder engine, like an MG Midget, Triumph TR3, or Porsche 550.
