I'm thinking about building the z car to SSM so I have some classing to shoot for, that way I'll be able to do time trials and auto cross, even if it's not competitive at first.
If I'm reading the rules correctly, I can use any engine from Nissan or Infiniti or Datsun?
And it seems that modifications are almost unlimited, save that I have to retain steering column mounted accessories? can someone elaborate as to what they care about being relocated and what they don't care about? I'm still deciding whether I want to run switches for turn signals or just reconnect the stock turn sig stalk..
Or possibly FP would be a better choice?
I want to go pretty much all out with this car, leaving it barely streetable
Plans, if I'm going full race car on it, which is what I've decided, are for an RB swap, or a vk45. fully polybushed, 5 lug swap, 4 wheel discs, coilovers, etc. Stock bodywork is something I wouldn't like to mess with much.
If building to SSM would be a better idea then I can live with rear drums and 4 lugs for sure, if the rules prohibit any of that.
I think F prepared would be best for me now that I'm reasoning it out, but what say you, oh great and all knowing hive mind?

The basics of SM/SSM: block is unrestricted, as long as the block is from the same manufacturer as the car. Suspension is unrestricted as long as you don't change the pickup points. You have to keep the full interior, except for the back seat/belts. For the most part, you can't touch the unibody.

Re-check the rules. I think FP is more restrictive with engine mods/swaps than the Street Mod rules while prepared is more lenient on suspension and body mods.
FP doesn't allow for engine swaps. I believe SSM allows for disk brake swaps as long as a parking brake is retained.
hmmm. is there anything along the lines of time trial unlimited for autocross?
I apparently want to go too crazy with it to match any class spec

Do you care about being competitive?
If not, I say build the car how you want to and just enjoy it.

X Prepared. But that makes Street Mod look cheap.

this is a good thing to consider. I'm the type of person who's more competitive with myself than with others in a race most of the time (at least in karting)
I'd like to not be the person 10 seconds off the lap pace, but I plan for this car to be around for a LOOOOOONG time.
I love the idea of just going all out with my first racecar being completely nuts, fully aero'd out, ridiculous power, etc. I plan on making it moderate at first and building on that though, I don't wanna be the guy who goes out to his first track day with an 800hp monster and dies.
Hmm, looking through the XP rules, I am in a quandary. If I get an rb20det, minimum weight appears to be the max allowable minimum weight rule, which is 2300. If I ran an N/A 2.0 I would only be required to weigh 1600 lbs?
I'll have no additional weight penalties because I won't be running traction control, abs, or anything else like that, but do I have the figures right for the turbo engine?
I need to figure out if the weight penalty will be worth it to run the turbo engine.
hmmm, MOAR BOOOOSTS maybe?

EM. More or less, whatever you want.
