Still shopping for a newer GC. They seem to get snapped up quickly. Spotted one at my local Chevy dealer yesterday. Clean 2017 GT...but it has 41k mikes, and they're asking $24.5k.

Looking at black-book, I'm guessing they own it for around $19k. The "P" on the sticker leads me to believe they bought it at auction.

I can't remember the hive's opinion on fleet vehicles (which I'm guessing this was.)

Would the mileage scare you off? See if I can grab it for $20-22k?

I think you can buy a brand new one at an FCA dealer for less than that.

In reply to chaparral :

You sure can.  They're the lower range models, but even those are pretty decent for the price.

A whole page of new ones for under that kind of money.

I'm liking this one - hard to beat this much new vehicle for under $24k.

I drove a 2015 Hertz rental, with 50K on the clock, to Wisconsin to pick up SanFord and it was a horrible drive. I really wanted to like it, Stow and Go, leather, top of the line and honestly a nice vehicle, but it drove horribly. Twitchy, loud, every bump in the road sounded like a 5 year old beating on a bucket. Every truck passed tried to push it out of the lane. It may have been 50K miles of rental abuse, the tires and a really crappy alignment, but after 1000 miles I despised that thing.

Make sure you give it a through test drive. On ocassion, they will let you take them home for the weekend.

I've looked at these before. Is there a reason you want a newish GC with those miles vs a 3-year old T&C with the same miles? I feel like I've seen loaded-up Town and Country vans with about 36k miles, 3-4 years old, for that price.

I personally would be buying the nicest example I could find for $15-20k from a private party rather than a fleet vehicle. There's a huge difference in quality between the beat rental GC I drove and a friend's cared-for TC.

for example

Here's a nice one with heated leather steering wheel, Uconnect, and keyless ignition.

In reply to Erich :

Those are both great examples.  And the grey one is even a manual! wink

In 2015, I bought a fully loaded 2012 T&C Limited for around $23k with 47k on the clock.  I forget what it stickered for, but that was something like 40% off the new price.

I didn't know the model lineup for the Caravan/TC very well until recently. Personally I've come to really like having a heated steering wheel and keyless ignition, so I would be searching for a T/C platinum Limited model in good condition. The T/C seats in higher trim models are very nice, with suede inserts, and I think they're the only models with a sunroof if that matters at all to you.

I do think the Dodge is a better looking pig.

In reply to Toyman01 :

I've heard that about the 5th gen models. People say the older 4th gens ride much better because they "feel heavier" and smoother. I love how our 4th gen rides. I bet $15k can buy you the nicest, most optioned, lowest-milage creampuff '07 T&C that possibly exists. You can swap the center consoles from a 5th gen model ('08 up) into the 4th gens which helps their long-haul functionality.

We'll likely be trading in our '14 T&C soon. 118k on it and I owe ~$9500, if you'd prefer something cheaper.

check out fallsmotorcity.com my mom got her totally loaded 17 GC GT from them for not much more than that used one.  FIL got a rather base 16 for around 15k with 18k miles from them too.  We bought the charger there as well.  Their prices are usually worth driving for, and they're local to me so if you want to fly and buy i'll pick you up at the airport if i can.  They're definitely no Hennessey Honda of Woodstock

Really?  My 2008 doesn't seem to drive that bad even with 192K on it. Hell... I just drove it 150 miles home from DC to PA with over 300 lbs of DRZ 400 & hitch tray hanging off the back (and another disassembled DRZ inside) and it didn't drive as badly as I expected.

I won't say my GC has been the best vehicle I've ever owned, but it's been a damn good work-horse over the past 4 years and over 100K miles of probably more abuse than any rental van would ever see.  Honestly, if it had the bigger engine (mine has the base 3.3 OHV V6) with more towing capacity, I'd be inclined to keep it, fix a few issues that have cropped up (A/C is broken) and buy a camper trailer.

The Pacifica is better than the Grand Caravan in pretty much every way, and are also being listed for under $25k as well.

The new Pacificas are very nice--- and the new 8 spd transmission is a big improvement over the 6 spd I have in my 14 G/C.     When shopping for Grand Caravans keep the trim levels in mind, as they are all nearly identical mechanically.

AVP-- American Value Package-- No 1st row stow and go, slider windows don't open--- had a starting MSRP under, or just at $20K

SXT--- Available with all the electronic do-dads, leather, etc.

R/T--- Available with all options-- quicker steering box "sporty" looking.

Blackout editon--- available on R/T and SXT models, includes black headliner, carpets, headlight surrounds, and eliminates most chrome.  The most "Sinister" of the G/C.

Mine was a 30th anniversary model, so I was able to mix and match from the options list.   The G/C I bought  (purchased in Sept. 2014)  has XM Radio, rear A/C, windows on the sliding doors that roll down, bluetooth, and full Stow and Go.   It listed brand new for $24,600, and I bought it for just over $22K.

I'd think for $20K, you could find either an extremely low mileage example, or a fully-loaded T/C still under warranty.

last year I bought a 4 year old T&C with decent options and 70k miles for $13.5

It's about to tick over 100k and it's been fantastic.

Thanks for all the responses!

To a fault, I'm a sucker for aesthetics. This one is "white knuckle white" on black leather with the "tough" lookin' 17" alloys...and it's 5 minutes down the road.

Anyway, it sounds like a crack-smokin' price compared to what y'all are posting. I really don't like the looks of the T&C, but hell, it's just a van.

I need to do some more shoppin'

Thanks again!

Like I said, I think it was a combination of 50K miles as a rental mule, cheap E36 M3 tires, and an alignment done by a blind man with a yard stick. It almost drove worse than the 60 year old bus I drove home. The rest of the vehicle was pretty nice.

The only other notable thing I didn't like about it was the center display infotainment thingy was obnoxiously bright. I'm 100% certain that is also adjustable, but it wasn't intuitive enough for me to find it quickly.

I'm thinking more like 6-8k. I have an 06 T&C i bought to flip and im hoping to get 3k for it!

08-up have huge advantages in the powertrain department. I don't know if there is any pre-08 van i would like so much that i'd forego the huge drivetrain advantages for.

Just watch the lowest trim packages, in some years they don't include rear HVAC.

I had a hard time trying $3800 for my 07 GC, 98,000 miles with everything taken care of. I replaced it with a 2014 T&C from the Enterprise fleet, got it at 39,000 I think for 15,800 otd and it's now at 62,000 with nothing but oil changes and tires. It's a pretty nice Swiss Army Knife.

Scouring autotrader/cargurus, I've found a couple similar RT/GT's LISTED at around 18k.  Also: The "online price" of the one I looked at is $21,400. If I can snag it for 18-19k with a decent trade in on the Mizerable5, I'll jump on it. If not, I'll drive elsewhere.

That said, I still need to DRIVE one. But in theory, it hits most of the buttons the Mazda5 is sorely missing.

Is the interior of the T&C's noticeably better than the GC's?

Duke

I don't have a ton of experience with GCs and T/Cs of the same vintage (the Battle Bus was a '00 GC, the Concert Coach is a '12 T/C).  But my guess is probably not a huge difference in materials, at least not once you step up to leather seats.

The bigger difference will be the niceties and things that are options on the GC will more likely be standard on the T/C.
