There is no denying the popularity of SCCA’s Street Touring category among the cone-dodging crowd. These street-friendly autocross classes continuously draw the largest fields, while others shrink.

Another option has been added to the card for 2012: Street Touring FWD—a new class for mildly modified, front-wheel-drive machines.

So which horse do you bet on? A head-to-head comparison test between the …

Interesting choice of a past article to bring back. STF doesn't exist anymore. Even more interesting choice to put it behind a paywall!

I miss STF, the first gen Forte SX was a really really good car for it even if the owner/builder/driver couldn't make it out of midpack. Locally it was a beast and was top 5 pax multiple times with 80+ drivers.

2012 was my very first Solo Nats as well, drove Brian Harmer's Corolla that year. Funny enough, I was also working the deal in Lincoln on the Forte to purchase the following weekend in Troy Ohio.

Is this why turbo MINIs are in DS & STU now?

I started #funwithcars in 2011 or 12.  Two AX events in the 06 Scion xB before season ended, then RX had one event left AND a rental.  That's all it took...

A bit later I bought the Abarth in early 2014 and decided some AX might be fun.  Every year it ended up in a different class.  Going from memory, like ST then STC then STS then STX then STH before I sold it.  Give or take a class.  I almost bought two of every letter of the alphabet in magnets.

In reply to Jerry :

My favorite SCCA classing story was the Forte was one of the few GS cars classed into STF. Every other car was an HS car that I can remember except the RSX-S. To be able to swap to coilovers, wider wheels, tune, intake, exhaust, sway bars it DROPPED the pax number from GS. In 2013 (the Forte's first season and my second solo nats), GS PAX was 0.816 and STF 0.795, 2014 after the adjustments, GS .806, STF .801. So it was better to go to the street touring class over the car being misclassed from the beginning. I wrote my letters and they were met with the usual, TYFYI

I thought the r53 was the reason for that.

edit: I started in H Stock, fiddled with DSP, went to G Stock with the redline(fantastic GS car), and then ran SMS & SMF with the SHO for a bit before life got in the way. Never have taken the Abarth for an autox.
