This is a potentially stupid question, so I apologize in advance. But ... Is the circumference of a stroker crank larger than a stock crank? I know that the stroke is longer, so that radius would be larger, but does that mean that if you had a very tight pan clearance with a stock crank, that the stroker crank shaft might touch the pan?

Depends on the engine but usually you are correct. Some engines support longer throws at the pan, block sides and bottom of the bores and others don't.

When I was building my 2.3 Fe3 engine the block would accept the stroker crank. When I used aftermarket rods I had to clearance bottom of the bores.

I should have thought of that. I have heard of guys having to do modifications to blocks to allow for the longer stroke.
