What is that little ball next to the torque converter shaft?

That is one of the cleanest transmissions I've seen. No idea on the ball, though.

The whole car is insanely clean. I have no idea on the ball either.

I have been told it keeps tension on the gearset so that when the shims wear it keeps the trans noise down.(told by someone on the internet. Bring your own grain of salt)

It's there so that when people say "This Outback has no balls" that they can point to that and say "yeah it does, see?"

I'm guessing some type of plug for an oil galley?

I'm wondering if it's some kind of breather check valve. Maybe there's a spring behind it and the o ring belongs between it and the housing. It's about the right size.
