I have seen several non-Porsche engine Boxster swaps over the past few years but they never seem to get "done". Boxsters have an Audi trans and Audi v8s bolt in and I have seen a Boxster that had an Audi 4.2 but at the time the gauges and OBD didnt work. As far as I know the gauges and such still dont work but the car does run and is being used as a track toy. It sounds and looks like a great idea, but you could never legally drive it on the street in Texas. That is the point at which the idea of a Boxster engine swap comes to a screeching halt in my head. I have the skills/resources to make trans adapters and mounts, but I dont know how to make all the Porsche electrics play nice.
I have seen parallel several parallel MS/Mazda ECM setups that worked flawlessly on Miati. But in that case the motor being used is the same and all the sensor inputs are the same. I could swap nearly any motor into a Subaru or a Mitsubishi, parallel some of the sensors, turn off the OBD monitors, and pass inspection just fine because I have the software to make it work. I dont have that ability with a Porsche
Does anyone know of any resources, software, wiring tricks, etc that are out there for the Porsche ECM?
I wrote to one of the big two (forgot which one) a couple of years ago and asked if they had a kit to do a Subaru into Boxster swap. They said that they didn't but they'd like to develop one. They suggested that I ship them a car, an engine and twenty grand to get started on the project. I decided to buy three other cars instead.
