Seems like the proffered ziptie wasn't up to the task at the speed we're going. Probably more significant bumper modifications to be had in the rain before we grid tomorrow.

106.4 before braking for Canada corner at RA last fall. Most laps were 103-104 there. The Rio/accent are supposedly electronically limited to 120. I've not tested that in public roads in Mexico but 110 is achievable with enough room.

If it makes you feel better loose sway bar link (I hope) to hopefully tighten tkmorrow. Rattled the last 70 miles on uneven pavement, so all the time

Some pictures from today...
Got to hallett early grabbed a garage for the crew. Fixed the loose sway bar link from the rough roads and made 1.5 track walks before the rain hit. Got to the garage just as the hail hit. This gonna be good!
We got up errrrrley. I think the hotel calculates out to $30/hr for sleep. But we also got to Hallet super early and were able to walk into the office and throw down money to rent a shelter for all four Sundae Cup cars to hide from the rain that was inevitable. Using money to solve a problem, we call that "doing a Hollis" in the OLOA world.

Jenna was back/repaired and put up a admirable 34th overall for Lanier event!

Jenna was on the grid but must have pulled off between the recon lap and the start lap since she is one of the DNS for both morning and afternoon.
There was a yellow Mustang that was towed off the morning but seems to have completed the afternoon.

Other than the welding marks, that looks very much like a BMW shock tower to me, complete with the grounding stud (the welded on piece) to clamp jumper cables to.

Maybe the welding was to fix a crack in the tower? The weld seems to go under one of the strut mount nuts.
Two things: 1. AAZCD came out and delivered fruit which our bodies desperately needed. We were happy and said thank you but we probably didn't really show how much we appreciated it. A lot. Like a LOT.
2. Spending $100 to rent a shelter that fit all four cars keeping us out of the rain and hail and other nonsense that is Oklahoma weather was the best money I've spent all week.

Story was they hit a really bad road imperfection... and on checking the BMW M5 the next morning, the team found cracks in the shock tower.
The fellows in the Corolla had a welder with then, so they zapped up the cracks so they would have confidence the cracks wouldn't propagate further as we traversed all the other hellish roads Brock is/was/will direct us over this week.

Yeah crazy day. Lot of lightning delay this morning which led to questions on if we'd get two sessions at all. Seth decided to not take the luxury car onto a wet track risking our comfy ride home tomorrow. Becky took both sessions along with Pete and I. Tim split the sessions with Marlon.
morning track was super wet. Super slick. TIL that a Rio can drift with the big boys as I was sliding around turn 2 facing the corner station, hands and feet a blur to keep it on track. Tim had a decent session, Pete had the confidence from turn 1 and took the morning session. Becky and I both had ... moments... around 4. I kept it together to take second with Tim and Becky closing out the class.
rain stopped and the track started drying. That meant times started dropping. By the time our afternoon session started there were a couple puddles in inconvenient places but an otherwise dry track. Hallett was made for the Rio, or vice versa. For the first time I was shifting as much as a fit. 2nd digging outta the slow uphill corners and 3rd pulling down the straights. Car felt fantastic and I could tell I was catching Pete with every corner. So for the second time this week I took the class win in a session. The dry felt great and everyone dropped time.
class standing stayed the same with Scott/Becky, Seth and I, Pete/Eric and Marlon/Tim.

Can't believe it's taken me 5 pages to see come in here as I love nothing more than economy hatchbacks racing. Especially Mazda 2s!

It was soggy at Heartland today. Moreso in the morning when I drove than the afternoon when Bob did, but really it was more that Bob was just a LOT better than me today. We think we learned some things about the car, so still a positive experience.
But also, since JohnInKansas is awesome, he stopped by this morning and brought us doughnuts in his NA Miata. And we chatted. And he mentioned that if we had time we could drive across the road and see some cool stuff. He 100% delivered on that.
We're going to be a little later getting in tonight, totally worth it.
so, I didn't have the best day today... apparently it's been too long since this Buffalo was out in the fields....
then again... I wasn't the only one...
The SundaeCup cars, though are still packing surprising pace, poise... and beauty?
