3.8 V6 Supercoupe: The intake tubes are all honey brown to black color like an exhaust port, but it doesn't have that smell of death.

My thinking is that nothing but cool fresh air should be going up this tube, perhaps the occasional bug but just air. What would cause this brown schmutz? It's a fine layer that can be rubbed off, but not oily or dusty, a discolor.

Is there something at the entry point that could blow atomized oil up the tube?

Does that engine have EGR?

Could it simply be that what you're seeing are deposits from that?

PCV fumes and EGR hot gases to bake it on.

I'd second the PCV. It's probably plumbed in pre-blower.
