I found this 404 Wagon on CL.

Am I crazy to think that I could build a front subframe, mount a rotary and put in a more traditional axle on the rear? The best thing for it would be a tube frame but I think that is a little above my current skills.

Talk you out of it? No way. Though I think of you are going to do a front subframe making a full frame to the rear wouldn't be that much tougher.

Good point, although grafting on Miata subframes front and rear would be cool.

Are you thinking struts or A arms for the front? Each has it's own space issues.

I would not graft Miata Subframes..I would graft that entire body to a Miata floor... even if I had to lengthen the floot

In reply to mad_machine:

The wheelbase on the Peugeot is 15" longer than the Miata.

I like to avoid struts when possible.

Or, which vehicles have a wheelbase close to 104" and width of 63" to drop the body on?

I'd hate to put a Miata rear under there and lose the rear space.
Now, what would be awesome would be to put it on a Cherokee pan. 101.4 inches. Almost certainly close enough to work.

Overall width is 68, track width of 58. Sounds like destiny......

Future skills need not be limited by current skills.

You need someone else to talk you out of a Peugeot with that much rust on the outside?! How much rust is on the inside?!

You're assuming there is an inside left.

According to wikipedia a Nissan Hardbody has a 104.3" wheelbase. I think it would be easier to drop it over a frame rather than a unibody.

Unless the floorpan has wandered away at some point and needs to be replaced anyway. In that case, you could replace it with a floor pan that has all of the important bits already in the right places.
