Almost 20 years later, this is still a solid list...
The Hype R is no longer reasonably attainable but its very-capable brother, the GSR, raises its wheel in anticipation (I should have bought one of those years ago...)
And while drivetrain technology has increased dramatically in these years, so has weight. "Rad Era" was our version of the muscle car era.
Get 'em while you can...

1990 Miata curb weight: roughly 2150 lbs (there's some muddiness here on things like Canadian vs US market cars)
2024 Miata curb weight: 2341 lbs
So that's a 200 lb increase, not terrible. And there's a significant difference in the safety, equipment and performance.
10 year necro thread bump and my comment is still valid, just a different Forte lol. New one averaging 35mpg on the daily slog and is way more fun than the first one.
My wife has logged every mile and gallon of gas for her 2006 Scion xB from the day we bought it new. Still averaging over 30 mpg with that blocky profile. The best car we've ever owned.
2003 Crown Vic, 20 and 27. This giant brick of a car does well on the highway.
V8 Mustang is still 20-24mpg. Of course 89GT was 225hp. 04GT was 260(?). Cobra was 390 and with a tune and pulleys was 600-700 with the same mileage....
