I'm going to look at this one after work tonight. It would be a DD for my son. What should I look for?

My brother owned that car! I actually drove it. His best friend owns it. His name is Ryan. It's been in great hands. As he mentioned, it was repainted long ago before they owned it and its flaking in some spots. Other than that, awesome car. I almost bought it last year. Ryan is a great dude!
Edited so as to stay on topic which is RX-7.
In reply to Fletch1:
Wow, small world. I just talked to Ryan on the phone!
In reply to JohnRW1621:
It is John. We are kind of looking for a rear wheel car, but I am going to see if I can go check it out later this week.
In reply to bravenrace:
It is. Tell him "Little Fletch" said hey. He'll know. Again, this car has been in great hands and would be well worth the look.
Will do, although after talking with my son I'm not sure it's going to work out. He's pretty concerned about the gas mileage.
Anyone know how to make a first gen Teg look as cool as an RX-7? Or how to make an RX-7 get the gas mileage of a CRX?

For me, the answer would be to have the rarest of Integras, the one that is bone stock.
It is possible that the answer could be MX-3 with KLZE $2.5k in Dublin, OH.
I am not sure how much of that is rice and how much is race.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
Unfortunately, my kid, who has been driving the car below, sees nothing cool about a stock 1st gen Teg. If he were my only kid, I'd say tough luck. But I have two, and one of them will be driving the CRX, so the other car has to be comparable or it will cause me mucho grief...
Dang, I always thought the 1st gen Integra 3 doors were awesome looking. Would be tempted to add one to the fleet, if I could find one cheap and solid (not likely to happen in Ohio).
In reply to eastsidemav:
Well the one John was talking about (you didn't have to delete it John) is in Ohio and appears to be in very good condition.

In reply to bravenrace:
Wow, thats pretty, but pricey. I can remember when those could be found in that kind of shape for $1000-1500. Of course, if I'd seen that about a week ago, I might not be driving around in an Abarth right now...
The delete was also to not draw competing buyers to the Integra once you stated you were going to look at it. This was also the reason for the original PM and not a board posting. I think that Integra is sweet and really not overpriced considering its stock-like condition.

In the process of looking for a car comparable to a '90 CRX, how is it that a '88 Integra is not the answer? To me the cars seem near identical with the Integra having more function but certainly not less fashion.

The best car that I could think of, sibling-equality wise would be a '90 Civic Si. But that Integra above looks pretty damn good...
In reply to JohnRW1621:
Well my kids would argue on the Integra not having less fasion. They both dislike the looks of it, and love the CRX. What can I say?

We already have one of those. But I tore it apart to restore it and it won't be done by the time we need an additional car. Finding another one has in good condition has been a challenge to say the least.

I weep for the young'ens. Youth clearly is wasted on the young.
Dont they know that It's programmed to think like a Formula 1 car?
And, Underneath all that beauty is a mind you can respect.
Afterall, it did grab the best spot at the beach.
I have nothing to add regarding Hondas, but I can say that between my two RX-7's - a 100% bone stock, 38k mile 1983, and a heavily modified 114k mile 1984 - I never once saw better than 18MPG, and that was 100% highway in the low-mile stock car. Typical tanks returned 8-12MPG in the city, maybe 15 with some freeway. I love the cars but have to admit, the mileage really is that bad...so your son's fears are definitely real, FWIW.
Wow I thought this thread was about RX-7's
My kids like 'em. Well wrenching on dead ones at least.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
I personally would tell them both tough luck because the boring sensible cars you would pick out for them will be cheap and affordable; Two very important attributes for young drivers.
In defense of the FB as a daily, I picked my '85 up about 2 yrs ago for $900. The fuel tank was rusted pretty good. I patched it and coated the inside, threw a new pump and filter and have proceeded to put almost 40k miles on it. Repairs / service so far have been brakes, oil changes, battery, alternator, starter, clutch master cyl, and a steering arm bushing. Nothing I wouldn't expect from a 29 year old car with 170k on the odo. The repairs are incredibly easy too, especially coming from working on VWs. It's pretty much bone stock aside from a slightly modified nikki (no rats nest and mechanical secondaries). I get 19-21 mpg no matter how I drive.
I managed to get 26 mpg as a daily for 35k, pm me for the methods to do so
Steve
Still thinking about 1st gen RX-7s? Because I had an '86 Base model FC when I was near your kids age and I typically saw 22mpg. Not sure what the mileage was when I really beat on it.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
That's cool looking
Why'd you have to do that? It's only 2.5 hours away
