I've looked at the 3SGE/6spd as a swap candidate. Here's my concern for your plans.
22R = rear sump
3SGE = front sump
The workaround on this is doable but not super easy and seeing that you are in an arena that often eats pans it may be a concern. Nothing that can't be cured with a robust spare stash, though.
My other concern, finding a good chassis to build from. These model years have all but disappeared her in the south.
Some AZ6 details..... the J160 is one version
S15 6 spd 3.626 2.200 1.541 1.213 1.000 0.767
NISMO 2.907 1.989 1.537 1.218 1.000 0.862
RX8 6 spd 3.760 2.269 1.645 1.187 1.000 0.843
Miata 6-spd 99- 3.760 2.269 1.645 1.257 1.000 0.843
SXE10 (J160) 6 sp 3.874 2.175 1.484 1.223 1.000 0.869
TRD(33030-SE100) 3.106 2.175 1.585 1.223 1.000 0.869
FRS - First Gear Ratio (:1):3.626
Second Gear Ratio (:1):2.188
Third Gear Ratio (:1):1.541
Fourth Gear Ratio (:1):1.213
Fifth Gear Ratio (:1):1.000
Sixth Gear Ratio (:1):0.767
Note similarity to S15 ratios
The gear box (housing) itself - there are 2 different housings... the J160 version, and all the others. The J160 version is a stouter box (heavier, more substantial casting) then the others.
While they hold up to most of the engines put in front of them, the Nissan boys found that once they modified their SR20DE to around 300-320 #/ft that they began to break transmissions - a "C" clip would come dislodged and damage would ensue.
With more grunt(wide powerband)... you'll need less gears

Them! That's the 2RZ-engined car I was thinking of.

The pickup truck 22R and the Celica 22R have different sumps if I’m not mistaken. The RA64 22R should be front sump. Pickups are mid or rear.
As for the concern about a chassis, they aren’t exactly common, but also aren’t too hard to source out West.
You’re welcome! I love helping solve problems, especially when the discussion at hand includes an idea this awesome!

Can these fit a 1UZ or other Toyota V8? Becuase I have been thinking of a similar idea for a future project, too.
As for trans, why not a W58 or other W series?
There was a member on here that had one that was 1UZ swapped. Or he was in the process of swapping a 1UZ into one. I was never certain. Speaking of which, where has Trackmouse been? I feel like I haven't seen him lately
I’m here. Just don’t comment as much anymore. Too much drama. Yeah the 1uz fits, cheap swap. Light too. Plenty of torque. The w58 is a clunky transmission. Ratios aren’t awful, but not great. I don’t like the shift feel. R154 is what I would do. (Oh, and thanks for caring and remembering!)
