In rather un-grassroots news, Tesla has released onboard footage of their new fastest 'ring lap, with a bone stock S Plaid. A lot of outlets (and Telsa themselves) are reporting this as a production EV record, but from what I can find this is actually the 2nd fastest production EV behind the NIO EP9. Still pretty good for a car that costs 6 digits rather than 7:
You're telling me all that juice is running through that battery cutoff on the left of the dash?
Without proper engine noise the tire torture is hard to take after a while.
People who know the 'ring well enough to get maximum performance out of every corner are amazing. I start forgetting where I am after 10-15 turns.
So can we program that into our auto-pilot now?
Kind of bizarre listening to the tires howl and nothing else. Fun to watch.
The steering wheel would cause me to turn around and go back to the paddock. I'd rather drive my truck than deal with that thing.
I think it's an illusion created by the wheel shape and the red gloves, but that thing looks like a handful at the limit.
There looks to be a lot more sawing of the wheel compared to this one. https://www.motor1.com/news/149205/chevy-camaro-zl1-1le-lap/

Well, he does have navigation on.
I wonder if he had regen turned off. Apparently it is a good idea to do that for the 3 to keep battery temps in check. I guess flowing large amounts of current out AND in will get things a bit hotter than normal use.

It is only acceptable if the forward facing radar includes a strip of red LEDs that "scan" side to side.

Well now I know what the front of our car needs.
I love how early he has to jerk the wheel to get that pig to rotate.
Those pigs are pretty freaking smart at torque vectoring with a low cg. I think you might be seeing a single wide angle lens and misjudging the distance.
Not the quietest hands in the business.
is this the lap where the car is "stock" but looks like it has larger rotors calipers and carbon ceramic rotors?

Wrong car. Two cars at the ring, one red one black. The red one has a full steering wheel too. Black one was the in video car, standard wheels/brakes, and standard yoke.
