Thank you General Tire for sponsoring The GRM Challenge for the past number of years. As a slight way of returning the favor, I bought 8 of your tires today to prepare the fleet for winter.

Just bought 4 of those myself. Considering another 4 for the other car actually.

They're my go to for the wifes X-Terra for both snow and general highway use. I've been through 2 sets now. Who says advertising doesn't work?

What are "winter" tires? Is it the same as mud grips down here in the South?

I have them on the van now - that sure gets strange looks down here on the gulf coast - and we have/had them on 4 other vehicles as well. Great tires!

I love my Arctics. Probably about time to cycle out one set for another, come to think of it.

Just put a fresh set on my parents' '99 Legacy Outback. It's like playing a video game with a cheat code on.

I had snow tires once.

Never used them.

I just ordered a set of Generals today too. My purchase decision was 100% GRM based.

I'll be honest, ours was due to the fact that our beloved Cooper Weather-Masters were sold out and the Legacy Outback runs a kind of goofy size.

You sure can't beat the grip for the price and I've owned 5? sets. But at least on my cars (Miata, Golf, Escort, Vibe, Accord, Impreza, Mazda3) they are FRIGGIN' LOUD. I started buying Blizzaks/Dunlops/Michelin X-ice's lately for the daily drivers for my sanity. Anything with a less aggressive tread pattern, really.

On the other hand these tires' hum on the Vibe put our kid to sleep within 5 minutes on the highway. Until age 3 that was really helpful, she otherwise didn't sleep in the car as easily as most seem to.

This year I bought a set for the Mazda3 (hey it's loud anyway) and of course for the rallycross Miata.

So, Arctics or Blizzaks?

I'm shopping this week ahead of that berkeleying Polar Vortex.

In reply to fasted58:

I've had both. Go with the Generals if you get more snow, or the Blizzaks if you just get ice.

Or...Generals if you're broke and Blizzaks if you're a 1%'er.

^What he said. Yes the Generals are amazing in deep stuff. Yes the Blizzaks cost an arm and a leg. I've only bought used Blizzaks but plenty of new Generals.

Cooper Weather-Masters are also a very strong option and they are pretty cheap.

I had a set on my Miata, another set on my Mazda2, and now I just bought a set for my CT200h. Noisy as hell on the highway, but just as good (or better) than Blizzaks I've had in the past for deep snow. It also helps that they do a $50 rebate every fall.

I think the set I bought for my 2 literally came out to $350 with brand new wheels and tires after the rebates kicked in.

They make Blizzaks for Harleys?

I need to put mine on, and drive on them harder, the best complaint I can come up with is they wear too slow.

I bought a set of 4 for the CRX of DooM a few weeks ago based largely in part to the GRM forum.

Today we were under a winter weather advisory and were released early from work. There was lots of blowing snow (thanks to the 40mph winds) and about 3" on the roads with icy spots. The Arctics never wavered. I laughed as I passed bro-trucks effortlessly.

These tires really are like driving with IDDQD mode on.

The short answer is no. Visit Tire Rack website and go to Research and Advice, click on winter tires under videos. All you need to know is there.

We had 14" of wet slushy snow that froze 2 weeks ago. The CX 5 AWD shod with Blizzaks was/is amazing in both snow and on ice. The Tacoma 4x4 shod with Altimax Artics has done great in the snow and OK on the glare ice. I have used Blizzaks for 20 years so I am biased. Both tires are quiet on the highway IMO.

I jumped on the Altimax Arctic train about a month ago.

It turns out they grip better in the dry than the 7yr old Kumho all seasons that came on my nb.

Guess I need to ditch the kumhos in the spring

I also got the General Arctic for my ride this winter. I never used snow tires in my life, but my normal wheels have summer only tires and thats a no no for Clevelands crazy weather. So i bought a second set of wheels and Monday or Tuesday my General tires wil get put on.

Looking forwards to trying them out.
