Ordered some new ball joints for my Miata. The tracking said they would be delivered today. Came home and found this inside my storm door:

An empty envelope with the top ripped open.

I don't know who is more to blame. The vendor for shipping ball joints in a padded envelope without reinforcing the paper flap or FedEx for delivering an empty ripped open envelope that has a shipping weight of 2 lbs.

I had UPS bring me a box with my ex's new Nikon camera with a HUGE dent/cut in the side. It was at work so I knew the delivery guy, but he still said he had to leave it and to file a claim if it was damaged. Sure enough, each successive box inside had a matching dent/cut and right into the rear LCD screen.

AIT World Wide Logistics' fine work.

Box looked rough, shipped in the factory packaging, no extra box/padding. Everything looked fine inside the box, then we turned it on.

The epicenter of the crack was consistent with the forklift fork sized indentation/hole in the box.

Took an extra week to get a replacement, but we got another $50 off for the trouble.

That was just my quick way to block off my address.

Wow....that's pretty sad. Who seriously would deliver the package that way?? It's clearly damaged and empty! I feel you pain. Sheer idiocy.

We have to order steel bars, at work. We got a 48" tube, once. Should have been ~15 pounds. It was empty.

I think I got one of your parts by accident at my old job. What was supposed to be a box of copier parts - and had the correct sender's label on it - had a 3" diameter x 16" solid steel shaft(with a 1/2" hole through, and a ring groove around, one end. It was obvious FedUps or whoever the shipper was had busted up some boxes and attempted to "fix" it.

It's come in handy a few times in the garage at least.

I had a warranty claim with my Jeld-Wen Windows in Wisconsin and they told me they would UPS the (double pane, 24" x 42") glass inserts to me. Really?

They sent them twice and both times they were broken in the package much to my surprise. Finally I tag teamed with a local distributor that gets a delivery every week and I picked them up at their warehouse.

Ordered a set of coilovers for the FD, box arrived at USPS completely destroyed with a gaping hole in one end. Two of the 4 pieces were missing. What do they do at the end of the day when they clean out their trucks and see large, heavy car parts rolling around, go "yep, everything in order here."? Fortunately I was able to refuse delivery on the spot, but the seller had to jump through hoops for months.

i had a ups driver leave a box out at the street at the end of my parents' 500' long driveway, in the snow, because he didn't want to chance getting stuck in the freshly plowed driveway. he continued to leave boxes out in the snow at the street until i called and complained.

another guy who worked for fedex pulled up about 10' from the front stoop of the house, opened up the side door of the truck, and chucked a box containing a $400+ aluminum intake manifold onto the concrete. i looked at him, said WTF dude, and he said "if it's damaged file a claim" and backed out of the driveway. put a nice big ding in the sealing surface.

then there are eff ups like yours, which are mispackaged and the carrier is the bearer of that bad news. i had a d!ck decide that half empty 20oz bottles and crushed aluminum cans were proper replacements for packing peanuts for a $1000 set of cylinder heads. sure enough there was evidence that one box was dropped, and when opened the rim of one of the cans dented the intake right between two ports ruining the sealing surface, and was still stuck in place. sent pics to the seller and he was just "lol a pop can can't dent a head" and then told me how lucky i was that he spent so much on packing materials, because he was from michigan and every one of those bottles and cans had a 10 cent deposit. then he never returned any correspondence afterward.

Ball joints seem kind of big to be packaged in a padded envelope. I guess it's cheaper for UPS or FedEx to send us busted up items and boxes than to re-order what they berkeley up.

They tried leaving a signature confirmation on the front porch the other day...the guy had just been scribbling down signatures.

Thankfully, not really any way to screw up tires.

Almost forgot about the tow hook I bought for the xB from someone on a forum. Yup, empty padded envelope with a few holes and the top had only been sealed with 2 pieces of Scotch tape.

During the heavy snow, I received a 3rd notice missed pick up, they did not come the 1st or 2nd time as there were no tracks in the snow, then stated we hadn't been there 3 times so I had to drive 40 miles to their depot to collect my wine.

Sorry, they were too busy overfunding their pension to dedicate resources to your shipping needs. Don't worry though, soon enough the house of reprepublicans will have totally killed off the USPS and then the private shipping industry will get your empty box to you lickety split.

I have seen UPS pull up to the gate of my subdivision, sit there for about 5 minutes and then pull away. I recieved a missed delivery email about 10 minutes later stating that I wasn't home to recieve it. Really? I watched you the entire time! Its not my fault the driver doesn't know the gate code. There are deliveries here everyday from all of the big parcel companies. It's not like they have never been here before. And I had bought a needed part from Amazon, paid for next day shipping but still had to wait another day.

When I was deployed, I bought a set of 100 mile take off shocks from a Wrangler Rubicon for $100. The eBay seller had, unknown to me, put signature confirmation on the delivery. Fedex could not deliver it because my girlfriend was at work when they came by. Then they tried 2 more times, at the same during the day. She told me about it and I called them. They would not release the package to her because she was not me. The CSR was about as helpful as a rock. The package ended up getting returned to the seller but it never made it. I got a call about 3 months later from a company that specializes in finding lost packages. The shipping label had been ripped off and it was lost in shipping purgatory. The CSR said that it contained "four red bars" LOL. She could not release it to me because the seller had to give the OK. The problem was that the seller would not respond to my emails. And by the time this all happened, it was out of the eBay/Paypal claim window. That was a year ago. I never received my shocks

In reply to stanger_missle:

And for lost packages, I sent an order to a customer in Taiwan by FedEx. 2 weeks later the tracking shows it was still in IN. Never made it to the customer.

A YEAR LATER, we get a call from FedEx. They were doing maintenance on some conveyor belts at their IN facility and found a package wedged underneath a belt. Got it back, unopened, undamaged. Repacked it and sent it on it's merry way to our customer.

Right now I'm waiting on a USPS Priority Mail 2 day package of Rallyarmor mud flaps for the Abarth. It's day 6 right now. Tracking (which is a joke) shows it left NY on Monday, made it to San Fransisco CA by Wednesday, sat there a day or two, made it to MN on Thursday, and this morning says Cincinnati OH. Crossing fingers I get it today to install this weekend.

It's not their place to file a claim.

One of the things that I thought sucked about a former place of employment was that we could not refuse faulty tires. Mount the tire, spin it up on the balancer, and about 30% of the time it would hop and wobble and be all over the damned place. Company policy (might have been manufacturer policy) was that tires couldn't be sent back as defective unless there was a customer concern and work order stating such. So we had a lot of pissed off customers that we couldn't do anything to prevent.

I received ball joints packaged similarly and they arrived fine. They did not come with new bolts, though. And they were also seriously cheap construction, being high-friction greaseable units with steel bodies instead of low-friction units with aluminum bodies. Would not buy again, I'll find the extra $60 for next time.

I bought a rotor housing (big hoop of aluminum, basically) that was packaged horribly. It was thrown in a box with packing peanuts in it. The peanuts, of course, migrated to the center of the part, except for the ones that got wedged in the water jacketing. It broke through the cardboard in only a couple spots.

Miraculously, it was undamaged. I e-mailed the seller to let him know that the part arrived safely but he really should package them better so he doesn't run into difficulties later. He had a LOT of rotary parts and I didn't have enough scratch it buy it all at the time.
