VW and Audi buy back diesels in storage. And this is only one location.
Coming to a third-world country near you sometime soon.....
But seriously, they should just reprogram the ECU for "legal" emissions and ship them all to Africa or something and give them away to needy citizens for free. It would be a nice step toward helping VAG's image (assuming this would be allowed under the settlements), and would cost the company less than scrapping/recycling them, I'd bet.
Several dragstrips are shut down operating as storage facilities as well. VW's money was just too good to pass up. Likely what's going on with Englishtown.
I wonder how they keep track of the keys.
That's a good idea about reprogramming them to run clean and selling them cheap or even giving them away. The longer they sit there the more it costs them, and serves as a constant reminder of how truly slimy VW was. (If you haven't watched the Netflix docu "Dirty Money", do so. VW set a new level for corporate badness.)
They are selling TDIs again. I think they are going to fix and resell the good cars. Maybe scrap the others?
Anyone have a carfax account? Would love to know what, if anything, happened with my Jetta they bought back.

I'm guessing they're stored the same way they do it at the port. Which is to say, keys in the cupholder. No other real way to do it with that many cars.
According to DW-News, or BBC News, there are 37 locations around the US filled with VWs, Audis, and Porsches.
