I am counting my pennies, would need to sell the T-Bird and the Hot Rod and the two flat-heads I have been building for a gow-job. Then figure out how to avoid being killed by my wife. Make mine White/ Black Red drivers strip like in the picture, black wheels and no carbon brakes if possible. God I love that wing.
You've owned the gambit of enthusiast cars--what is it about the Viper that keeps reeling you back?
I'm not big on the wing, but it is a seriously appealing car. I had a chance to drive Vipers around Barber some years back, and I loved it. I know this gets thrown around a lot, but to me it was like a big Miata in terms of steering feel and overall drivability. Just with a lot more horsepower! And of course a LOT more heat.

They do exactly what they say on the package no compromises. Plus I love the story about how the first one was put together in what amounts to a shed off behind corporate eyes. Same with the prowler, its a bunch of guys who had a cool idea and then someone who had the guts to actually build the thing and sell it with minimal changes from the bean counters.
Plus you can drive a viper 20K miles a year with nothing but OEM consumables that cost 1/4th what most other high end car companies charge. You can pound the thing at the track or autocross if you are crazy and still drive home with the stereo on with very little issue. You can take it to a car show unwashed and covered in tire snakes in all the wheel wells and nobody chides you for not having it perfectly clean. You can drive for San Diego to Las Vegas at 75mph and get 18 mpg. I can leave it in the slums of SD or LA and I swear when I come back its cleaner then I left it, try that with a 360 spyder and see what happens.
The are like a big dumb orange hunting dog, happy to do just about anything but when you need to work they are more then capable.
Damn, talking like that makes me want one! I think that the wife may be about to throw me out anyway, so maybe I should just get one!

Yep. All true.
I'd also wager that if you hang on to one long enough it could make you very rich someday. Vipers have all the makings of auction darlings 30 years down the road.
I'm glad to see they're giving the Viper a chance to turn its sales around and not axing it.
Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed this post wasn't about a dart acr/
Your wife would probably be happy you traded 4 cars for 1
A quick check on Autotrader revealed you can pick up early coupes in the low $30's....I hate you people!
My wife would be happy if I traded four for one. Well maybe not a Viper but...

That is the big kicker, you can get a perfect Gen IV with all the track modes you could ever want for sub 70K right now. I sold my Gen III coupe for 47K a while back done up like a ACR-X.
I actually prefer the Gen IV to the Gen V in terms of looks. Plus no traction control and modifications for the old cars are way cheap. For 85 I am willing to bet you could find a TA 1.0 as well with some miles that would be just as good, all you would need is the wing and the front canards to make it look externally like the ACR.
This isn't about Neons.
Why isn't this about Neons?
Yup. I was hoping for a thread about neons. I miss my acr.
