I have not driven one of these but I have made a couple observations.
1) With a nice fat set of wheels and tires and lowered just a bit, they look freakin awesome.
2) The rest of the car must be amazing for people to love a sports car with a motor that can best be described as "meh" as far as I can tell.
Want MPGs? Short shift the hell out of it. Sub-4,000rpms.

FYI, dont ask on the F86 forum if they think the car would be better with a real engine. The pitchforks and torches come out in a hurry!

The MSRP on mine was close to $44k, but it was pretty well loaded. I noticed one at the dealer the other day with a sport package for only $33k. That does make it a tough choice. In reality, the BRZ does drive better, but day to day I think the 370 is easier. Now, when it comes to prices of consumables, there is no contest, the BRZ for the easy win. It's funny though how long it took for people to notice I changed cars. Both are blue and have a similar shape. My neighbor still thinks its the same car. Shows you how close many look at cars.
I just hit 5 months with my used FR-S. Only mod so far is OFT which I ordered after 2 weeks of ownership. It definitely helps with the midrange. May do wheels and tires when the Prius tires give up.
I bought it with the knowledge that there was a decent LS Juan conversion in development and it should be available this year. I figure in 6-8 years I will start doing supporting mods and in 8-10 years start down the conversion road.
That is unless I can find an acceptable alternative that will be less costly and just as nice (I'm looking at you EcoBoost 'stang).

I'm curious how you are getting such terrible gas mileage. Granted a fair amount of my commute is highway driving, but even on E85 and driving "spirited" on occasion I still average 21-22mpg per tank.
I keep her below 3k until she's warmed up (oil temp above 175F). I don't generally redline... usually only go up to 6k gently now - otherwise check engine light will come on for coil pack issue, Code P0351. Nominally I would be shifting at 7k once up to temp when accelerating up to needed speed then into 6th.
I hang onto 2nd or 3rd gear for low speed turns (more often in 3rd now, because again 2nd will cause check engine light for coil pack at higher rpms) and accelerate into and out of turns whenever possible. When performing passing I downshift to the proper gear for 5k rpms and go from there. When slowing down for a light or intersection, I go down through the gears @ 3k rpm until reaching third.
I drive the car how it want's to be driven and whatever gas mileage it gets, it gets... which is not bad actually. It can get 31 mpg cruising on the highway @ 80-85mph...I've done it many times on long distance trips. Just the daily drive to/from work gets 20-21 mpg average because every drive is a fun drive - no thoughts given to anything related to fuel mileage...
P.S. I'm getting everything ready to take care of the coil pack issue...just will take some time and I'm currently concentrating on getting the new drivers seat that's been sitting in the living room mounted in the car this weekend.

I would have much preferred an actual Toyota motor put in this car... not fond of Subaru motors. The Vorshlag LS conversion is drivable now, may start saving up for it...but do I really want that much power in this car?:

Saw that earlier. Seems to have an issue with chirping the tires any time the pedal is used. Trying to decide if that is a good thing, a great thing or just a scary thing?!
Also noticed that there was still a lot of electronics to sort out, not the least being the electric steering.
