I haven't heard back from the seller so I think i'll be keeping the Escort. Inspection is due and all it needs is a couple of tie rods in the front and should be good to go..

my future sister-in-law has one that my brother did a SOHC turbo engine in . it makes 250-275 WHP, and has a decent suspension setup (tokicos, extended top hats, some decently stiff Eibach springs , and swaybars.) also has massive brake upgrade. my brother LOVES autoxing and and open-tracking it.

its quite a good little car. handles exceptionally well (seems better than the sum of its parts)

The Del Sol was based on the 5th gen Civic (92 to 95). The chassis can be stuffened/braced with "bars" that are available from the aftermarket. I think Honda or the aftermarket missed the boat by not offering a cloth top for temp use.

Good: gets good gas mileage, usually reliable, small size.

Bad: most owners have abused or modded to within an inch of their lives, higher than Civic insurance, heavier than pretty much every other body style of Civic.

BTW, in other markets there was a motorized top as an option. You pushed a button on the dash (after realeasing the top's catches?) and it was lowered in the "trunk" without the driver needing to get out of his/her seat. Think of a forerunner to the Miata folding top.
