Does alternate-GRM-universe me have an equally stupid fleet of vehicles?
That quote made me think of, perhaps, the impossible.
Has anyone ever been crazy/dumb/bored enough to attempt to compile a list of the piles of crap we all love?
Is it even possible?
Would the ratio of Miatas be 1:1 vs all other cars here?
Would the universe implode it there was a factual statement like "GRM has X many Yugos and Y of the actually run"?
Is it a futile endeavor?
I'm betting Miatas are 15% or less of the total.
I have 11 cars and none of them are made by Mazda.

If you've got access to the GRM forum db it would be fairly trivial to compile some stats using the "Garage" database. Scraping it off the web site is also possible, but significantly more effort and might get the site admins annoyed with you.
I dunno how accurate the garage db is, but it's probably no worse than you'd get posting a survey thread.
I have 6 cars, 3 of them Mazdas. Only one is a Miata though. :)
I own 8 and none are Mazdas
3 are 2nd gen explorers though lol
There is 3 Vans that ate the businesses that I'm not including
I think the Garage DB would not work. I only have 2 out of 7.25 cars in it.
None of the 7.25 cars are a Miata, so that was just extending the Miata legend joke. I did own a NB once though.
I think it would be painful, if not impossible, to compile.
The results would be interesting though.
I know I'd be fascinated by the results, but it sounds difficult to compile.
One could use a surveymonkey survey and create some data that way. Of course, it would only be as accurate as we made it by how many of us participated.
I have a soft spot for Chevy Celebritys. They're the American Lada: Kind of crappy, but they just work, even when they shouldn't. Bonus points if it has the Iron Duke.
But in the SAAB 900 Turbo.... it isn't soft.

No Miatas. In fact, I've never owned a Mazda aside from a 1976 Ford Courier that had a wheezing 1.6 OHC Mazda drivetrain.
I did think about buying one once, however. After driving one I realized my days of tolerating little rough riding sports cars are mostly over.
I'll reset the Miata count for you guys. I have 5 NAs on my property right now (one's not mine) along with an MG that has a significant number of Miata parts inside. When I left the house this morning, there was also an NB. No other Mazdas.
The only other brand that is represented by more than one car is Cadillac. And a significant number of these vehicles sport engines that are from a different manufacturer.
The Miata (which can be brand new and is not necessarily a 30 year old rough riding car) is the most popular car for GRM readers according to their surveys. Note that GRM readers and the GRM forum regulars are not necessarily the same demographic.
Six vehicles in our fleet, soon to be five when the WRX sells. One miata, one other Mazda (a five), a GMT 400, my DD Ralliart wagon, and the Morris Minor challenge car I bought a couple of weeks ago.
Maybe if we list them here, hopefully an (crazy) accountant and a data guy will take this project on?

I would love to see the variety, awesomeness, cool factor, etc. of this creative, talented, helpfull, et. al. communities vehicles.
If everyone's garage was updated and if there was a "member list" on the forum then I would be able to compile that data.
Now the real question is how many Eagles are on the board? I mean everyone has a miata but eagles....That is something else. :)

No clue how to make that happen...
I have never owned a Miata, but I have raced three different NAs, including a win at Pocono North. Currently, and hopefully permanently, I have a Volvo 245 and an X1/9 1500.
Building on the thought exercise... What car does GRM have the greatest markshare of?

I do know there are far more old Dodge trucks here than you would guess by reading the magazine.
In reply to yupididit :
Of the 11 vehicles I own, only 6 are listed in my garage.
The easier solution would be a stickied thread assuming you could convince everyone to update it.
In reply to Toyman01 (Moderately Supportive Dude) :
The garage would be cool to do because then I could compile a list and probably hyperlinks to each car.
I say cast out those who will not pledge fealty to Mazda!
1 Miata here.
Current fleet:
2002 Mazda Miata
1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA
1989 Chevy Caprice wagon
I had a Miata once. I currently have two Mazdas and they are both sedans and i like them both better than the Miata.
I feel like yupididit's idea is the most feasible. If i knew that system was already in place i would go update my garage right now.
I use to have offensively long sig lines and garage entries telling people about all the stuff i own (which is too much, and all of it is junk). Now i don't care to push that out to anyone who isn't asking, but if i knew it would contribute to a data set that would become a comedy gold mine I would feel morally obligated to do my part. LOL

1 1987 VW Scirocco 2.0 16v
1 1992 GMC Safari with SBC
1 1979 Kawasaki KZ 400h LTD
That's all folks!
No Miata here - although I did try to buy one.
There seems to be a fair number of forum members with Triumph Spitfires and new MINIs. I have one of each.
If GRM forum gets an upgrade one-day and we get a Member List with the garage then it would be much easier to do than grabbing data from post in a thread.
