Funny but true (and sad really) article.

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/its-a-jeep-curse.htm

Cliff Notes version: Jeep is always profitable but its owners not so much....

  • American Bantam Car Co. to...

  • Willys (and Ford during the war) to...

  • Kaiser-Frazer Corporation to...

  • American Motors Corporation to...

  • Franco-American Motors to...

  • Chrysler Corporation to...

  • DaimlerChrysler AG to...

  • Cerberus Capital Management (Chrysler LLC) to...

  • Fiat S.p.A ???

Nice knowing you Fiat (and Ferrari and Maserati, et al)!

Because Jeep switched hands so much, it makes for some interesting parts bolting together. My dad and I have a '65 Jeep J-300 pickup truck with Jeep, willys overland, and kaiser on the name plate with a big block mopar in it now. When we got it, it had a 350 buick from a '69 Jeep. On another note, some wealthy guy should buy jeep on his own and make it a private company and just stick to jeeps.

the '65 would say Kaiser-Willys. that was the company name at that time. Jeep used mostly their own engines

They bought the Buick V6 and used a Buick V8. Then AMC and so on.

AMC had a 327 ci engine and a lot of people thought it was a Chevy 327.

I read the title and thought you meant the curse of private ownership. I know Jeeps are bad for me after having owned two, my father one 1957 Willys, etc yet I still have this undying urge to get another. The bodies are buckets made to contain water until they rot out, the installation of a radio is useless as it can't be heard over the wind or flapping canvas and they don't handle for crap.

But boy, are they cool. Nooooooo.....must resist.....

Only if they're blind or dumb as paint..

My '67 Kaiser-Jeep has a Buick 350 from a 1969 Jeep. The P/O blew up the Kasier 327 that was in there.

I know a "ford guy" who keeps insisting that the Stude' 289 is a Ford engine

Actually the Rambler/AMC 327 was painted orange from the factory, so a LOT of people mistook it. I had one in a 62 Rambler Ambassador with the push-button automatic.

Rambler's 327 actually came out before Chevy's.
