Ouch. I paid $1200 to have a subpanel set in my attached garage, currently feeding three chargers - two 240v, one 120v. There's space and current capacity left on the subpanel in case we need to upgrade. In my case the subpanel made sense as the attached garage is 100' or so from the service entrance and main panel, and only had one 120v circuit feeding it. Unfortunately that brings my house electrical panel count up to six. Plus the workshop which has three.

Analysis has already been done on this.  It's always cheaper and more economically viable, and better for the environment to buy and repair a used old car.  No one really wants the hassle of that though, so there is the issue.  It's a convenience and "feel good" thing.  EVs still require massive numbers of barrels of oil and movement of earth to build.  To be honest, I don't really care what people buy; get what you like.  I just find the attempts to justify the choice a bit too much.  It's like trying to explain how windmills are going to save the planet and denying the number of barrels of oil it takes to build them and they burying the busted blades in the dirt and ignoring that too.

Now if you argued EVs will reduce smog and make living in more crowded cities have better air quality, then you would have a legitimate point.  No one ever bases their decision on this though.

Sux, squeeze, bang, Blow,  what an engine has to do to get a single power stroke.  Meanwhile pistons are sliding  up and down.  coming to a complete stop twice with every stroke and accelerating to 2-3000 ft per second?  While valves are going up and down.  Then there are distributors or alternators  water pumps  oil pumps and turbo's or maybe superchargers.
Ever watch Steam punk machinery?   I love it.  Because it's the absolute opposite of efficency. Maybe that's why I love V12's.  Or maybe because of WW2 fighters.
But as a means of getting to and from work?  Or visiting Grandma?  What absolute utter nonsense.
See I think you can love all that whirligig thingamabob. Enjoy playing with them like some people still love horses.  And still want to be practical.
Are  you  saying that some Windmills that break are justification to  keep pumping oil from the ground?   Or it's got to be one or the other right now?
Sorry.  Some people are ready today for EV's. Some aren't. Some will be in the future,  some won't. I haven't heard a single call for a public vote on the subject.
I have heard wrong information corrected.  I know I made some statements which were overly supportive  that I acknowledged  weren't accurate.
