The 3-seat delta setup just looks awesome to me, I think every kid at some point has wondered why sports cars weren't "centered" like that.

It's funny, but the fan and generator setup are the things that interest me the most. I know WHY you don't see gear-driven systems versus belts, but the noise seems like such a small price to pay in exchange for -deleting- an entire point of failure.

Do we have pics of the engine yet?

I thought it was interesting the one discussion video how Murray said he gave up a kg or so for the magnesium valve covers vs. carbon fiber because the former just looks a lot better and stays that way better over time.

Gordon Murray said one customer asked about getting a spare engine, and he told him that it wouldn't be necessary since they'll keep spares in stock.  The customer replied that he just wanted the extra engine so he could put it on display as a work of art.  smiley  Murray was really happy about not having any drive belts or other components cluttering it up.

It wouldn't surprise me if that customer is Leno.

having a gear replace a belt doesn't sound like eliminating an entire point of failure (though it does sound like adding noise!)

but in this case having the single accessory share the same shaft as the crank does sound like elimination of a PTO drive of some sort. And as noted this accessory is a power out and power in accessory, depending on use case.

Funny how he mentions he sold his own F1 due to value getting so high and parts getting so sparse. However, for this he keeps mentioning spare parts will be around "forever."

Probably the difference between the F1 being a McLaren car (not under his control) and the T.50 being his own brand (presumably 100% under his control).

I like the car. The weight figure is properly impressive. The manual transmission is cool. But nothing about it makes me *really* want it.

There's all this PR about it not being like anything else, but it kind of just blends into a lineup of modern supercars in the same way the 911 R blends into the lineup of 911's. Yes, it's different, but not a million dollars different.

I guess I exist in a world of cheap cars and karts that I can work on and modify and I feel really appreciative of that space.

I don't remember the number, but Gordon Murray indicated quite a few of them are already spoken for, so it isn't necessarily Jay Leno (I suspect he gets kind of tired of his name getting tossed around whenever some new or rare car comes to market...)

The engine only drives the alternator-starter, so the water pump is electric?

This guy cares about driving pleasure.  In addition to a new Alpine A110, Murray has a Lotus Elan, and Retro Power built him a restomod Mk1 Escort.

I'm sure he does - but Leno is also a well known Gordon Murray fan.

Still... with only 100 examples, it's hard to say how easy getting one into the country will be.  Might get a "display" exemption.

the water pump as well as the air conditioning compressor are electric.

My dad had a mid-1960s Allis-Chalmers garden tractor with a generator-starter, so that concept is nothing new.  :)

Anyone else seeing John Cleese playing Gordon Murray in a movie?

And I now have 2 mega lottery cars.  An F1 and one of these.  I really like that this seems to be a no-frills driver car but happens to just cost an insane amount of money. I'd be tracking it as much as possible because if I could afford it, why not?!?!

It's nice to see somebody designing a supercar with an eye towards maximum fun instead of performance stats. A car that seems to be built just to dish up raw acceleration, but without the visceral experience, can seem a bit lacking.

One bit of trivia with the caliper alignment - there are a few cars out there where it's possible to put the OEM parts together so the calipers end up on either the front or the back; my Dodge Dart falls into that category. I'm not aware of anyone who's done a back to back test of the difference.

those exhaust port outlets are 3d printed, thats not bent tube, tubing is welded to it though. see how it looks texutred/darker? Plus the reverse megaphone that blends perfectly into the flange. awesome stuff!

EDIT: upon closer inspection, the collector may be 3d printed as well.

While certainly possible on a car like this for the actual parts to be 3D printed, it may also just be the casting molds that are 3D printed. The magnesium valve covers look the same to me, and I'm not sure if printing magnesium is even possible right now.

I'm so happy I wasn't the only one thinking this. Each time I see his face I just see Cleese talking about which group of political extremists to go with.

So much cool in that car. It's a shame sports cars are in such decline, it would be great to see more of its features and ideas in other cars. I have to wonder if a similar fan/diffuser setup could ever be used in more mainstream cars. How much have could they reduce drag in a more pedestrian car shape?

The only thing I'm a bit disappointed in is the suspension setup. There are so many trick setups out there today, whether it's the many different adaptive shock technologies, the hydraulic maclaren/citroen type setups, DSSV, etc. I would have loved to see this car's take on it as this car isn't just out of the box, but didn't know boxes existed.
