The new Freightliner concept is awesome!

Finally, a new tractor that has actual, new thinking in it! Aluminum frame, no passenger door, active aero, better living/working space, and lighter weight. It even looks cool!

needs a red LED in that little slot above the grille, swooshing back and forth, back and forth....

What's so good about no passenger door? There are lots of husband/wife teams.

no passenger door? that seems like a bad idea.

and it's fugly. wheres the front bumper? the Volvos i see on the interstate seem to be the sleekest and prettiest of the bunch- a nice, clean, uncluttered and efficient design.

that- thing- looks like it is just screaming out for some neon lights under it and 10" fart cannons on the ends of the exhaust.

but the aluminum frame seems like a decent idea, provided it would be able to hold up to a million miles of heavy abuse without work hardening and cracking in the wrong places.

I like it fine but I'd hate to be the first driver who burned to death 'cause I crashed or rolled etc. and my drivers' door was jammed shut and couldn't find the passenger door handle.

EDIT: My wife just asked how the driver's gonna be able to pick up wierdo's and/or hookers?

It's a neat concept, but I don't think it's going to make it far.

Ah fellas, it's a single driver cab. They designed like that on purpose. And it has a door in the back.

I came into this tread wondering why the hell we care about tractor rigs, and am leaving blown away by how awesome this thing looks

I was hoping that it would turn into a helicopter like the one from The Highwayman.

Came in for 1,000,000 tiny little lights and the "Snowman" theme, leaving disappointed...

Regardless of it being a single cab you need more than one entry exit point in case of a crash.

A door on the back, while it might be a good additional method of egress, won't take the place of a passenger door because the trailer will tend to ride up on the back of the cab and block that door.

The lack of a passenger door is just dumb. I know there are tiny weight/aero gains (and they add up in huge mileage), but... no.

Aluminum chassis are not new. I remember a book on trucks I read the cover off of when I was a kid (late '70s, early '80s?) mentioning aluminum chassis rails as an option. Looks like I'm not making stuff up: A '79 Kenworth with aluminum frame (though it's was apparently "rare")

Wait for the custom paint guys get one of these. I'm looking for some bodacious designs.

I think you guys are missing the point of the lack of a passenger door. The point was to be able to use the space where a passenger seat might be and use it for something more functional. No, it's not designed for team drivers, but they specificly mentioned that they're selling more and more day cabs vs. long haulers.

nope. aluminum frames were not uncommon at all. Especially with tanker trucks or other weight conscience rigs. My dad had an early '70s Autocar with aluminum frame, Detroit Diesel, 15 spd, tandem axle. it scaled a hair over 11,000 lbs. BTW...that is LIGHT for a road tractor.
