Yesterday the UPS guy stopped by to drop off some tires. He’s about 30 years old. As we are talking he asks me about the cool old car in my yard. He says he says he noticed it last week and thought it was really cool. Now at that moment sitting in plain sight in my front yard are the following cars: ’94 Miata, ’06 Miata, ’86 Mustang, ’65 Mustang, ’79 Zephyr, ’30 model A chassis, ’86 Merkur, ’84 Dodge Omni, and my ’05 Ram truck.

The one he thought was cool was the 4 door Econo-box Dodge Omni. So 80's Econo-boxes are what all the cool young kids are digging now?

In that group, as a 31 yo, I would have likely the Merkur, the Zephyr, and the Omni (particularly the turbo variety) the best. The others have gained some fame/collect-ability at this point so are typical to see now. A nice Omni, even a lower spec model, is a rare sight now.

As one of the young kids. I like turbo Dodges. The Merkur and the foxes are cooler though.

The turbo/GLH Omni is definitely a cool car. A plain-jane base model, not so much...

I'm thinking plain jane base model with a 2.4 turbo.

I'm 32. And I dig all of the 80's cars. Part of it because I grew up in the back seat of these angular underpowered death traps. The other reason is that they are affordable for a young guy like me. I'm instantly turned away from anything beyond my budget. Therefore, as much as I would like to have a '67 cramit, I'm turned away by the stupid prices for them.

WTF... Was the 65 in pieces, and on fire?

Then again, I've wanted one since grade school in the 80's, so maybe I'm biased.

Could be he was a turbo Dodge fan - or wanted to see if it was for sale and figured he couldn't afford many of the others.

My ups guy waits until I get home when he has a summit delivery. Just so he can check out the latest project. Any other time, its by the garage door when i get home.

The Fed ex guy has offered me his rx8 almost every time he comes by. More specifically, the motor under the condition out goes in my miata

I've told him he's welcome to bring it by when he's not in the clock but never comes around.

The Omni is a rare bird around here, been looking around on Craigslist for one between Connecticut and Maine, New York and New Jersey and nothing. Chevettes and 80's Escorts seem to fall in the same category. An occasional Rabbit, but that's it and those are pricey when they turn up. Always on the lookout for a hot hatch/econobox, but nothing seems to turn up when I have the cash to spend.

The Omni in my front yard that the UPS guy saw is a carbed 2.2, but a pretty shade of blue. My GLH Omni is in the back yard, so no way he could see that. I do think they are getting a bit hard to find. (I have an IROC R/T in my back yard, and that motor might be really sweet in an Omni. But I've got a dozen projects in line ahead of it.)

Any updates on the SVO?

The SVO is being moved back to $2018 so we have time to do it properly. Right now we would be rushing just to get it painted and re-assembled. The car was very rusty when we got it, and those repairs are very time consuming. Waiting until $2018 let's us finish the body work without rushing, then we can get to work on suspension and horsepower. We thought it wiser to bring a completed car, rather than a compromise. The summer in Florida also means crazy high humidity and heat which is the enemy of a good paint job. We are still attending the $2017, but with a plan "B" R-code Miata.

My ups guy complains about all the heavy and odd size/shape car parts he has to deliver.
