I drove a FoST and a FoRS almost back to back at an autocross. Gotta be honest, I liked the FoST much more.

How modern does your selection need to be?
Light weight and chuckable sounds attractive to you, as does north of 200hp and some sort of limited slip.
May I suggest a mx3 gs, swap the baby kl for a klde from a probe or mx6, then boost and a limited slip and be around 230-260 reliable hp and 2600lb before any weight loss measures.
Or a NX2000, an sr20dett swap with a modern billet wheeled turbo upgrade and you'd be checking all the boxes.

Thought of you when I posted this. I'll definitely keep you updated. In the meantime, dicks crossed, plz.
If it's "really bad," I'll start a new thread. LSXperts is checking it out on Monday.
For now, I got up early this morning and fixed the fuel leak on the "poopfinder" (94 pathfinder) so at least I got wheels.
Next up is diagnosing and hopefully fixing a small coolant leak on the Disco, and if there's time, throwing a battery in "old nasty" (DA integra) and seeing if she still runs right.
Just trying to give myself some short-term options. I have an 80 mile/day commute, so the "farm trucks" are not ideal, but we'll see how it goes. Any time I've driven the Disco for more than 10 miles at a time it breaks.

At the price they're going for, I'd just go ahead & step up to the FoRS. And I kinda hate the body redesign. I'm picky about looks.
In reply to captdownshift :
I search daily for 1st gen CRX's and 3G/5G Civics. If a clean one popped up locally I might be all over it, but that well is lookin pretty dry.
Also, I do need something reliable that can pull kid-duty.
It's also worth noting that I am way out in the sticks, so a Ford or Chevy still under warranty is a better option than anything foreign w/warranty as I'd have to bring the car to ATL or Chatt.

Que??? Are you selling yours?
Everything is for sale, for the right price. I've only done a couple of track days with it. No autocross and other than the shifter and center console change, it's completely stock and unmolested.
'16 RS2, sunroof, with the recall completed and updated USB port and SYNC 3.
For the two or three days a week I drive the kids to school with it, it's overkill and I could buy a cheaper rig to run and focus on getting my project car back on track.
I went from Fiesta ST to Focus RS.
I did really like the Fiesta ST, and it was COMPLETELY trouble free for me for 98k miles. It had the Mountune MP215 setup on it for 97k of them. It was plenty quick, and a really fun little car. The Focus RS to me feels a lot like the Fiesta turned up to 11. I preferred the Fiesta over the Focus ST by a long shot, but feel the RS is the superior car in every way. It's certainly a lot faster. Mine has 65k on it now, and has been trouble free for me since I got it at 30k.
And..............today is Tuesday.....and what pray tell have LSXperts found on the "V"?
this not the little brother.....go big or go HOMEY!!!!

I haven't driven an RS. Just curious, what are the attributes of the RS which you enjoy most?
I have a mild hatch (veloster turbo).
I can't say if I were to do it again I would consider it, a Focus ST, or a Fiesta ST. I'd go straight to something with a diff.
At the lower end of the price range, that would be Golf GTI (depending on discounts/whatnot) or Civic Si
Veloster Ns are a crazy good value, and I kind of wish I had just jumped in one of those. I'm surprised you said make the jump to the RS, what are they trading for now? The Veloster N PP is $13k cheaper than the RS brand new and comes with a warranty that covers track use. Its a hell of a bargain and I have yet to read a bad review of one.
They are berkeleying ugly and the drivers side is dumb though.

They do look better than the first gen Veloster which was like an ugly cousin that has zero amusing or charming qualities about his personality to overcome his unfortunate genetics.

I love how on its toes the car feels. It's really just a good driving car all around. Ford really knows how to make fun to drive hot hatches. Probably better than anyone else. Launch control and drift mode are fun too. Never been in a car on street tires that'll launch like this one... I'm sure they're out there... they just cost 2-3x as much!

Ford managed to do some magic with the steering and chassis on that platform, even in the base models.

They warned me they were slammed when I had it towed down.
They got it on the rack yesterday, and spent all afternoon looking for chicken-E36 M3 problems. Prevailing theory right now is a bad lifter, which wouldn't be surprising.

Having only spent about 30-40 minutes driving one, I can say I instantly fell in love, and the love didn't go away. There was no "poker-facing" it during the test drive, and once the sales dude was comfortable with it, I really pushed the thing hard, and was confident I was still nowhere near the limit. Granted, this was on SC2s, which would probably make any car feel god-like on the street. But I didn't find anything not to love. It handled like a 80's/90's honda but with twice the power.
I'd go straight to something with a diff.
Like an 18 RS?
I want to like the N but I'd have to get over the looks, at which point a CTR would also be an option, but I'm pretty opinionated on looks, and it definitely factors in to my car preferences, and the N and CTR are fugly IMO.

It is your money, you should get something that YOU like to look at.
any V update?

The CTR holds the same aesthetic as the STI. Hood scoop, big wing, and some extra aero bits and grill openings. The Veloster is in its own world, I'm thinking the ones in white or black mutes the looks a bit while the red and powder blue scream "look at me!" like the STI and CTR.
