Don't throw $20,000 at a $4000 problem. How much does a GM V8 cost to rebuild, worst-case?

4.8s and 5.3s can be had for cheap in the junkyard.
Poopshovel: The red interior drives me nuts as well. The steering wheel looks like a VTECH kids toy with the red accents on it as well.
The CTR is one of the ugliest cars I've seen in awhile, both inside and out. That alone kept me from even going to look at it, then the ridiculous dealer markups sealed the deal.
FOST is my vote. I really liked mine as a driver. Probably the best manual car I have owned overall in terms of ease of driving.

Whatever, Christie.
In reply to poopshovel again :
I will be selling my 2014 Fiesta ST pretty soon, has some modifications already that are worth doing: intercooler, mountune radiator, cobb rear motor mount, cobb accessport. It is orange and has orange recaros, 1 set of 16" summer tires, 1 set of 15" winter tires.
I used to work at Ford and on the Focus RS doing calibration. I made the tune that is on the fiesta ST accessport with AMS performance. The Cobb "OTS" tunes are terrible for the Fiesta ST based on what we saw.
PM me if interested!
Unfortunately RS are still quite high in price for what you get, honestly if a new WRX can be had for about $26k its hard to justify a used RS with close to 100K miles for $26k range.
In reply to engiekev :
My 2016 FoRS is at about 15k and would be about 30k to buy and I wouldn't touch a WRX with a ten foot pole.

Too much downtime for the head gasket replacements?

Or maybe they just aren't that fracking old yet. Most people don't drive that much per year. You go ahead with your high-brow humor though. We're all in stitches over here.

I have seen some in the 80-90 range though.
This is a matter on which I have been paying close attention.
It seems like most for sale are 2016s. I would rather have a 2018 but those have not depreciated as much (because duh), and they may not because I assume they wouldn't have sold as many as they would have sold first-year models.
In reply to Knurled. :
16s were actually pretty light on the ground... late availability. Most were 17s. Mine is one of 189 white RS1s according to the chart... I'm sure less than that if they broke it down by wheels and sunroof.
I don't think I've seen one with over 75k on it. Mines at 66k.
AND................cuz I have one you meathead, er Mr Meathedd...... wtBERK is the prognosis???? please and thank you....peace out

Not sure how long the typical RS head gasket recall takes, but my good friend had his sitting at the dealership for ~3 months in 2019. Hence my jab at Ford. Gotta live up to your signature I guess...

I'm laughing. As much grief as the Subaru gets, the Focus RS had a well documented issue with head gaskets, too.

Was this the V that used to have a super awesome engine in it at one point and then had a stock motor thrown in for resale to a GRMer, or am I thinking of someone else's car?
My vote would be an Elantra GT for a new car. I liked it way better than the Focus or Fiesta ST. Also people have had the flywheel fail on the FiST and its not covered under warranty because its due to "abuse". VW warranty is also horrible, you pretty much need to open a lemon law claim before they will actually fix anything.
As with any warranty, the dealer is the one that makes it or breaks it. I've had my issues with VW dealers being dunderheads but also have had good dealers take care of me.
So far (knock on wood) my '19 Golf R hasn't required a visit to the dealer. If it does the dealer near my office organizes track days and is an APR dealer and is known to be quite good. So I'll take it there...

In the case that made me mention it, it went beyond the dealer to VW company representatives getting aggressive on the phone and lying about what was covered by the warranty and what the dealer was doing with the car.

This leaves me very confused -
Meanwhile.....Pshovel is sitting somewhere in north central Georgia sayin' y'all got nuttin better to do?

Lol. So yeah. Bad lifter. Went ahead and replaced all lifters and trays. Did some maintenance E36 M3 at the same time (plugs, wires, and the obvious stuff like headgaskets, etc.) Cam was in good shape. The temptation to go silly with a nasty cam, pulley(s) etc was strong but she's got plenty of power and running like a BRAND_NEW raped ape. So I'm content for now.
Also: We had the black Challenge V out at AMP destroying Ferraris and Porsches this weekend. So I'm still contemplating "Trading down" to a V1. They are such fantastically berkeleying simple hammers. And now that I know where to get the weight out, I could easily have a 12 second daily driver that's not as fickle as the LSA...AND have a manual.
