Flying to Socal (Santa Ana) and driving back to Mid-Mo early next week. Trying to decide whether to do two 15 hours days (with a stop in Albuquerque) or to do three 600 mile days. Looking for suggestions on where to stop at those 600 mile waypoints and whether there's a good bar/barbeque joint in those stops.
Go.
I quite like the Western US so my suggestion would be that you could swing out through vegas probably and then by the grand canyon, but then again the south rim might not yet be open, can't remember if it opens march 1 or march 31. from there you could swing up through southern CO and great sand dunes NP or even up to ouray/silverton/telluride depending on what the snow is like up there, and then up through grand junction and i70 east back to MO.

Whatchagettin? Hope you take pics of your sojourn. I'm flying out Sunday from Savannah to Dulles to pick up a Ranger.
I'm still trying to see if Pikes Peak will be open to the top on Monday.

Looks like the thee-day trip @ 600 miles would be stops at Gallup and OKC. The two day trip would stop at Albuquerque but after 15 hours of driving I'll simply collapse.
My mom passed last September and I'm inheriting her Swift. Nothing interesting.

Take Route 66? Stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona. Tag Cadillac Ranch. Visit Radiator Springs.
Done this. Best done in two and a half days. IIRC, we went San Diego to Flagstaff, Flagstaff to Amarillo, then Amarillo to Mid Mo the next day. It was bearable, and some really cool scenery. We also made a quick detour up to the Grand Canyon on the morning of day 2.
