I am currently in a similar situation as you, mazda605. I have an '02 Ford Econoline E-150 with 68k on it. We have a few other toys, including a boat, tipping about 3500lbs, as well. As much as I'd love to replace the van with a big pick'em up truck, I can't justify getting rid of a vehicle that's paid for, has a history I know, and has low miles, just to replace it with either a heavy loan payment or something just as old in a (even-ish) trade off.
I also vote to keep what you have, if you want to upgrade install a dvd player, a few little improvements and Bob's your uncle.

My 97 4runner has been dead nuts reliable. 200K miles and NOTHING wrong...ever.
Tow rating is 4500 and it tows my single axle with race car and NO trailer brakes just fine.
Front brakes on 4runners are huge.
I have towed the exact same set up with my old 97 dodge 2500 cummins turbo diesel, and the 4 runner is not too far behind....no lie. You feel the load more, but not drastically more.

What can one expect to pay for a timing belt replacement on said Toyota 4Runner? I would most likely do it myself,but I want to have a number to use in negotiating the price of the car. It has plenty of other maintinence work performed,but not the timing belt. The seller is unsure if it was done before she bought it,but I doubt it.

I have taken mine to the dealer both times so far.
It was around 700 with new water pump and new belts.
