That would be even cooler
I was assuming one gi-freaking-normous engine.
A bigger block , if you will
I just gotta wonder ... why?
That would be an awesome lemons car if you could afford the 1.2 million gallons of gas it would take to complete the race.
I wonder if he rigged up some 4 wheel steering to go with the 4WD.
I'd drive the hell out of it.
Lots of faith in that fuel cell. Lets hope the cap has a good seal.
Plexiglass separates the hot engine from the tank while a sparking battery sit to the left and to the right. The whole tank sits right above the entire hot exhaust of two engines.
With the pair drinking from the same tank, there cant be a whole lot more fuel than a couple quarter miles worth.
Same concept as the Hurst Hairy Olds drag car, with two sets of Toronado drivetrains.
I wonder how they get power to the rear axle, A v drive? Access to the rear engine looks fun! I would rock it.

You suppose he fell out of love with it after he drove it and realized what a mess it probably is to drive???
i love it. i'd drive the piss out of it. but i'd set one trans up with an electric pump to circulate fluid through the cooler like when you flat tow stuff behind an rv so you could run one engine at a time to not use twice the gas.

Its using oldsmobile toranado transaxles front and rear.

Why would the battery be sparking?

Is it just me or does this thing have like 20 degrees of toe in ?
The Hairy Olds concept was the first thing that came to mind. Glad I'm not the only one.
10k almost sounds reasonable if it runs good.

Thats exactly what I suppose. Like a lot of projects it sort of sounds cool but in reality, what are you going to do with it? Thirsty, heavy, handles terribly, extremely complex and unreliable. Probably a rattle trap. The ruination of a Chevelle IMO.
Sonny's race engines is producing a 1005 c.i.engine that puts out over 2150 HP and over 1550 ft/lbs of torque! Would bump you over the dollar limit though! A ready to go engine is only 109,800 bucks!!!
the only thing that Chevelle needs is a pair of turbos on each engine..
In reply to Feedyurhed:
He built it in the early 70's. It's a time capsule of what a crazy street car was back when the Chevelle was still a new car.
isn't two 455s only 910ci?

Yeah, I was assuming he accounted for a slight overbore on one or both of the motors but I didn't do the math to figure out what that would be.
my big question on this kind of "swap". can it only be done with Automatic transmissions? I assume the torque converters would absorb any HP varience between the front and rear engines.. but at what point does one engine start overpowering the other?
This swap uses two Toronado front wheel drive engine/transmission combinations, which were automatic. You could do the same thing with other engine/trans combinations that use a manual transmission but then you have to come up with dual controls for the clutches and shifters; with the automatics it's just a lot simpler.
The twin engine Scirocco known as Durocco uses manual transmissions, you can look at how it was built here: http://solophotography.com/DuRocco/main.html
