I was trolling around and found a company called Covin in the UK that builds 911 replicars on beetle chassis; interesting to be able to build it however you want without having to worry about purists or value. I can't find a single one in the states so possibly not a thing here.
What are your thoughts?
There's a thread on a guy rebuilding one on the Retro Rides forums.

You read my mind, that's where I saw it first.!
Realistically, its more of a 912 replica.

Sure, that one is. They made slant nose 930, 911, 964 etc...
I've seen them back in the 80's as a kid. If you get one be prepared for a massive amount of work to make the panels fit even badly. The RetroRides guys is doing a hell of a job converting an 80's style wide body to a narrow body long hood. Honestly, you can still pick up mid year 2.7's and SC's in rough shape that would make a far better starting point for an engine swap and rebuild.
Just wait till you can get one on a New Beetle chassis!
No different than any other kit car, it is just a lot more realistic looking.
I have 2 alternatives that I'd do before going through that.
1) if wanting a Porsche appearing body, a 986 with IMS damage and an LS swap
2) if wanting aircooled enjoyment, a Baja bug tricked out to safari spec.
Wow they really need to hire another PR person. I googled Covin and got:

Especially because when you say it to people it sounds like: cov·en
ˈkəvən/Submit
noun
a group or gathering of witches who meet regularly.
derogatory
a secret or close-knit group of associates.
"covens of militants within the party"

I'm pretty sure that was intentional.
I've always found these things to be kind of puzzling. Sure new 911s were expensive, but until very recently, there have always been cheap ones around. Under the best of circumstances, you'll be twenty grand into a Covin by the time it's halfway decent. Wouldn't you rather just have a ratty 911?
Witches are problematic singly, I wouldn't recommend acquiring a group of them.
If I was going to go through the trouble of building a fake Porsche it would be a 962.
I've had a secret desire to take a lazer 917 and correct it to come mch closer to a real 917.
I don't see the point in this when you can buy a decent 911SC for what this would cost.
If you can't buy a 911SC a 911 is not for you IMO. Pick another car. Don't build some VW hackjob for about the same price you can get an actual 911 for.
