anyone know how well throat/vibration mics work for transmitting from a loud car to the pits?

Dunno about at the races, but they work great for paintball. You can coordinate with your teammates without your opponents ever hearing you...

Tried out a few different setups last year on ATV's, but no joy.

The wind at speed caused too much static on the other end. You might not have that problem in an enclosed car, but most race cars I've been in have been pretty loud.

The other drawback is that all of the models we tried were still PTT (push to talk) so we had wires running to the handlebars to try and use our thumb, but what seemed to work best was attaching it to your chest protector. Still had to ride (drive) one handed though while trying to make comms - probably not the safest thing at speed.

YMMV

i thought it would be rather droll if we looked at some etchings....

our car is an MR2 with the roof cut off, so "enclosed."

we use PTT radios, and they work fine (w/ the button attached to one of the harness chest straps), but last year it was tough to hear the driver w/ a regular mic (courtesy of an unmuffled 4AG at 6,000rpm). was wondering if this design would cut out that background noise. PTT is no problem b/c there are plenty of spots on track with time to talk.
