Hey all,

next week I will be purchasing new tires! Finally get to say goodbye to these invincible cheap BCT S800 Chinese bricks....anyway ive done a lot of research and ive narrowed down my choice to 2 tires, the BFG Sport Comp2 or the Bridge Potenza Re71R....most likely will go with the Comp 2 for price and a longer lasting tire

My dilemma is tire size. I have a pair of Enkei RS7 17x7 wheels and I run 225 45 17s on them right now. SOme say that is too wide for that rim and that I should go back down to 215 45 17s.....besides a shorter/stiffer sidewall in the 215s and less weight, should I make the change? or stick with the wider beefier 225s?

I use the car for autocross and canyon carving. Grip and handling is my goal. ALso my daily

car: Acura RSX Type S

Those tires will deliver the grip you're looking for in a 215 size. You'll also have better response/handling in 215.

I got some RE71R for my DD Speed3 and they just too stiff riding for daily use. The grip and steering response is excellent, don't know how the wear will be but they came with only 8/32 tread depth new.

The RE71R is a far superior autocross tire.

If you're looking for a tire that is almost as good as the RE-71R but will deliver tire wear that's actually acceptable for a daily driver, I'd look at the Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec.

If your car doesn't have a lot of negative front camber you'll just chew up those Comp2's autocrossing. They weren't built for that.

In reply to INITIALDC5: Go with 205/45/17 with the Petenza RE71R, especially since you are autocrossing it and don't drive it that much. The mag tested different width tires on the same wheel, and you can't argue with science. 7" wide wheels call for 205 tires.
