Today was a car day. Just over 12 hours door to return and 450 miles of Highways 18,210,134 and 101 to a gathering that has been on hold for the last two years. First, the obligatory picture of just a very small sample of the group.
I counted participants from 7 states. No I did not ask if the were driven to the event, But I would gather that most were drivers.
Yes, I did pick the car that I would most like to take home.
Ok, why this one? Yes, this is one of my favorite color combinations, Yes, it's a 2000/5 speed combination as delivered from Datsun. The seats were not the factory naugahyde, but a very close copy of what the seats in my car look like. The wheel and tire combination worked on the car. But most importantly, it's a driver. It had some blemishes, but that was the point.
I also was able to find some drivers that in fact compete with their cars and ask questions about set-up that will save me weeks of chasing things that I can avoid. One example is a local source that can refresh the SU carbs, to establish a baseline with refreshed parts.
Next, given that I have a 1600 my rear springs will be fine. I do need to work out what LSD I am going to install, and I have a base line front end set up to start with.
So, I can absolutely confirm that my car will not compete in the "as built" class. It's not as found in a barn, but I will have it in the "race" group. The slowest of the class but I will be competing with it.
