We all know the Rolla.. it done bloodied the Italian Contender to become the new champ in record time.
Now, from Ford of Europe.. comes the Fiesta. A "supermini" as they call it over there, this diminutive Subcompact hatchback was availible with a wide variety of engines and trim. From a small, barely there, 957cc engine up to a 1.6 litre that became the XL2, Ford's beloved Hot Hatch.
Only two body styles were availible. A 3 door hatch and a 3 door "panel van"

Wouldn't the UK's MK1 Escort be a better match?
I guess I'd have to pick the Rolla, but it does pain me to dis the Ford.
Rolla! and I still want mine back.
Ford guy here. Picking Theres Carolla.

Gotta take the Fiesta...purely sentimental reasons.
I was gonna say Fiesta, but that particular Corolla (not Corrola or Carolla, BTW) in orange kind of wins me over.
Both?
I see this match up as apples to oranges, I think fiesta vs tercel of starlet would be a fairer fight. Just my $.02.
Having owned 3 of them and road raced one of them it's Fiesta all the way baby! Still wish I had one. I'd drop a Zetec in it today!
Coroll... uh... Fiest... uh... C... no, wait... um...
Dammit. Corolla, by a nose.
I'm going to go with Fiesta. I'm a sucker for some chin spoiler.

here's a Corolla with some chin spoiler
I love, love, love the Fiesta, but I have to vote for the Corolla even though they're ugly, simply based upon rearwheeldriveyness.
Plus, I know a guy with one that's Rotary powered.
Corolla... but i think a better match would be the KP61 Starlet.
Stock for stock the Fiesta, but modified I would take a Corolla. Stock the Corolla just doesn't have enough power for RWD to be a huge advantage.

Corolla.
I was waffling until oldskewltoy hot-linked that white 'Rolla.
Fiesta. I've owned four. I'd love to make it five someday.
I just don't get the Corolla love. I think some of you probably have never driven one (let's not include the GTS Twin Cam for the moment). They are truly a pedestrian car with merely adequate power and nothing much going on in the handling department. I'm sure you can turn them into something, but at what cost?
The Fiesta (US version) came with the largest available engine (1.6) in an incredibly light body (1800-ish lbs, IIRC). Nimble handling, quick steering and a shifter not using cables (stupid Mopars) it's only real flaw was the 12" wheels and wimpy brakes. I imagine a lot of the voters have not driven a Mk 1 Fiesta, either. Though the prettier but duller (and far more rust prone) Corolla will probably win this by simple name recognition, the Fiesta whups it's ass. All the rest of you are wrong.
No, gonna go Corolla on this. It's close as I owned an '80 model Fiesta years ago, but Corolla it is, I just like them better.
I thought we had to choose from the two pictured?
