What kind of robot does it turn into?

I had the opposite feeling. All bulbous and bulgy up front, but the back has a dash of the new 'Vette and FR-S. With a pinch of SRT Viper.

It'll be so sad if they don't make this.
I find it odd that they're focusing on the pusher fans on the radiator stack that are visible from the front. Unless they're functionally necessary I think it would be better to run pullers. Works better, looks better.
those aren't pusher fans for the radiator, they are the low pressure fins at the front of the turbines....
Either that, or a new 'hybrid' drive system to, erm, something or other.

One of my first thoughts was that it looks like a Sagaris, and since they cost a ton and have asplodey engines, this could be better!

lololol spot on. Nominate this post for post of the month in the magazine.

Except it completely lacks any of the cool factor or - I can't believe I'm saying this - restraint of the Sagaris. This Toyota thing is hideous, and the best I can say for it is that at least they'll never build it.
And that rear - gag. It was bad enough on the new Vette. Stolen and jacked up on steroids, it's not any better.
So I messed around with the DLC version on GT6 tonight. It looks nice (if a little "over the top"), accelerates really quickly, and handles like an armored personnel carrier. HOPEFULLY, GT6 just screwed up the modeling of it a wee bit. Otherwise, hold out for the STI/TRD version of the frisbie twins.
Love the looks, possibly because it reminds me of one of my favorite paintings...

The art-major in me thanks Gameboy for getting the topic right :)

I don't want them to build it. What's the point? Nobody could afford it who matters.
Meanwhile I can afford a twin turbo i6 bmw 135i. The newer version that is single turbo costs the same as a Supra did in the early 90s.
Why can't toyota compete with that? Oh wait, they are too busy at Lexus building INFERIOR cars at insane prices.

If they built this car and labeled it a supra it would be Toyota's last insult to their former fans. I'm still holding out hope for Nissan with their IDX and Z ideas and Mazda's next-gen miata and possible RX-8 replacement. Those companies show interest in building E36 M3 for regular people. Toyota and Honda just spit in our faces and Toyta needs to have Subaru do most of the work if they actually do build something for us.

It's GT6, a fairly mediocre game, so i'm betting it is nothing at all like reality in any situation.
I finally figured out what this reminds me of... take 60% Grand Sport Corvette (60s one) and sprinkle liberally with FRS
It’s awful, just awful. I will say it looks better in person than in pictures, but that’s like saying Mussolini was a better person than Hitler, he was still a stinking stain of dog E36 M3 on the world. It’s just a jumble of different design cues that don’t work together. No, this isn’t my Ford hat and I hat Toyota hat speaking. I actually liked the LFA, and for other manufacturers I think the 510 concept over on the Nissan stand was the best concept at the NAIAS. I also like the three wheel electric city car thing Toyota had, but this was the visual equivalent of the contents of an airline barf bag left out on the runway on a 120F day.
I like the idea of a HUD as the primary means of getting data. Not some add-on gimmick, but the primary way you see your speed. Smaller gauges that you can glance down at sure, but you put up there the important stuff and the rest you ignore. Driver centric. I like that.

Funny, I totally hate it from the front, but think the rear quarter angle looks pretty good (assuming some of those giant vents everywhere get moderated in the real version).
This is pretty brilliant. Tone the styling down a few notches, use a hotted up corporate motor and tart up the interior a bit so it sells at a slightly higher price to make some money.
GameboyRMH wrote: It would be nice if they put some kind of V6 in there (2GR-FE?) and priced it in the $30-$40k range. It could be a step up from the Toyobaru, and some Corvette buyers would give it a look. It would have great balance with a short engine too.
However, although I think this thing looks pretty good, this: is still just STUNNINGLY beautiful
I am an admitted Toyota fanboy, and I like it despite the strange front end. Most attempts to graft a formula-car looking nose onto a streetcar don't work well, but this one looks better than most. The side profile and rear 3/4 view are awesome...it is like the best of the 2000GT, FR-S, and a modern take on the Supra all in one.
The latest from the rumor mill is that the base model will be a big four and the top-of-the-range will be a twin-turbo V-6.
