Are these unobtainium / expensive.. .. .. or both?
I found a killer deal on a car but the trans is junk. I have not looked / called around yet as I am at work but the car can be had for under challenge money. If a trans could be had for in the $500 range it may be a worth while project.
I doubt the trans is the only thing that is junk.
For the price I can get it for I can part it and make $$$$ The motor is supposed to be fine. I actually suspect a clutch or a master or slave cylinder have gone and it is not the trans at all.
The car was driven by guys daughter that could not get the hang of driving a standard. So yes the trans could be the problem but most of the time when people don't know how to drive standard they kill the clutch.
Either way I am interested but worst case if a trans is bad and it is 1k then forget it.
A quick search of car-part shows a range of $660-$6500, most between $1000 and $1500.
Here u go...whole car for $1k. Grab tranny and part the rest...

If it doesn't specify on tranny, it's probably the tiptronic. Manual 2.7T A6s were moderately uncommon.
As regards that ad above -- if it needs one turbo, then it needs 'em both. As soon as one fails, the other one tries to compensate and that blows it up too.

Well, not only that but it's so much damn work to replace a turbo on that car that you'd be a fool to not replace them both at the same time.
